Western Major Baseball League

The Western Major Baseball League or WMBL is a summer collegiate baseball league. The league can trace its roots back to 1948, as it has gone by many names over the years, including the Alberta-Saskatchewan Baseball league, Western Canadian Baseball League and Saskatchewan Baseball League before settling on its current name in 2000.

The WMBL is a wood bat league along the lines of such American collegiate circuits as the Cape Cod League, the New England Collegiate Baseball League, the Coastal Plains League, the Northwoods League, the Pacific International League and the West Coast Collegiate League. It is officially classified as semi-pro

The current WMBL champions are the Okotoks Dawgs.

The WMBL is comprised of eleven teams in three divisions. The 2007 season saw the return of the Dawgs franchise, now based out of Okotoks, Alberta; however, the Red Deer Generals ceased operations prior to the season. The 2008 season saw the Sherwood Park Dukes joining the WMBL, while the St. Albert Big River Prospects took a leave of absence.
