Westerkwartier

The Westerkwartier is used for this area in the dutch provence of Groningen and borders with the provence Fryslân. In the past the area was part of Fryslân. The frisian language is stil spoken in the western part of this area (the villages: Marum, De Wilp en Opeinde). In the rest of the Westerkwartier, the local language the "Westerkertiersk" is spoken.
The biggest place in the Westerkwartier is Leek.
