West Visayas State University, also referred to by its acronym WVSU, is a state university located in Iloilo City, Western Visayas Region in the Philippines.
[edit] History
The university was established in 1902 as the Iloilo Normal School but was subsequently renamed West Visayas State College in 1924. Its centennial was celebrated on January 2007-June 15, 2008, a celebration delayed due to an inaccurate review of its history. It was chosen by Sen. Blas Ople as Center of Excellence.[1][dead link] It is considered as a center of excellence in teacher-education in the Philippines and its College of Nursing is recognized as a top performing Nursing school in the country. The College of Medicine is one of the Medical Schools in the Philippines posting a high passing percentage in Medical Board Examinations producing Board top-notchers.
In February 2008, the university hosted an international research conference in Iloilo City, in conjunction with its year-long centennial celebration.[2]
