West Virginia Route 102 is an east-west state highway located in Mercer County in southern West Virginia. The route is unorthodox in that it terminates at the Virginia state line at both ends. The western terminus of the route is at the state line southwest of Bramwell and northeast of Pocahontas, where the road continues as a Virginia secondary state route. The eastern terminus is at the state line southwest of Nemours and north of Falls Mills, where the road continues south as State Route 102.
[edit] History
WV 102 formerly re-entered West Virginia west of Pocahontas, Virginia along Exhibition Coal Mine Road (Virginia State Route 659). WV 102's western section followed what is now McDowell County Route 84, West Virginia Route 161, and West Virginia Route 103 to Welch. The western section of WV 102 was eliminated sometime between 1976 and 1980, at which point WV 103 gained its current number.[2][3]
