[edit] History
In 1975, after all attempts at determining if it were feasible to expand Grafton National Cemetery resulted in the determination that it was not cost effective, a committee was organized to petition the governor for the development of a new National Cemetery. A 58 acre tract of land which was the cemetery of the West Virginia Industrial School for Boys was selected. It was dedicated on September 27, 1987, even though construction was not yet completed, and it opened for interments the following day.
