West Thornton Primary School

West Thornton Primary School is a primary school for pupils aged between 4 and 11 years. The school is located on Rosecourt Road near Purley Way around Thornton Heath Pond. The Local Education Authority for the school is the London Borough of Croydon. The school caters for pupils from Reception to Year 6. The school is close to the border of Croydon and the London Borough of Merton. It is also close to Croydon Cemetery. West Thornton Primary School, formally the Boston Road Schools (Infants, Junior Girls, Junior Boys) was founded in 1896. The uniform for the school includes, for girls, a white blouse or turtle-neck shirt in gold, green cardigan/jumper, green skirt or pinafore dress, green or yellow summer dress, white socks or green tights, tie, sensible school shoes. For boys the uniform is mostly the same, except for the grey trousers. The current headteacher for the school is Mr Stuart Roberts, when Mr P.J.Westlake left.
There is currently 615 pupils who attend the school. The last Ofsted report, July 2003, stated that "West Thornton is a very good school" and that "the leadership by the headteacher is outstanding"[1] The overall grade was above average with a few points well above average
