[edit] Overview

West Somerset Community College (sometimes abbreviated to WSCC) is a fairly large comprehensive school in Minehead, Somerset, England. It provides education for children and teenagers aged 13-16 (school years 9-11) in the main school and 16-18 (school years 12-13) in the sixth form (West Somerset uses a three-tier school system). WSCC has had Technology College status for several years, meaning the College receives additional funding. WSCC currently forces all students to take a Technology option at GCSE level. *EDIT* Whoever wrote this is a moron, the college makes a technology mandatory because it is a "Technology College" and would not receive funding without doing so. Several colleges use the same concept, other such colleges might require students to take a language or a humanity for example. *EDIT*

The College recently gained a good Ofsted report, which stated that the College had 'a number of outstanding features' but most were 'good'.[1]

[edit] Facilities

The school is housed in a number of buildings of various ages and condition. There is a separate Sixth Form block and Common Room for Sixth Form students.

Many classrooms have digital projectors and interactive whiteboards with laptops and/or PCs available for use by students. The computer system is a network of computers, each student and staff member having their own password protected area and access to email. Filtered Internet access is available *EDIT* The internet access is controlled by county hall and the college limited control over it. *EDIT*. Each computer uses a Microsoft operating system with applications software such as Microsoft Office. There are also specialised applications such as a 3D design program.
