West Ranch High School is a public high school in Santa Clarita in the community of Valencia, California. Mr. Bob Vincent has been the school's principal ever since it opened in 2004. The school mascot is the Wildcat, and navy blue and gold are the school's official colors. The Paw Print is the school's official newspaper, and West Ranch TV is its official TV Network. West Ranch High School is part of the William S. Hart High School District. During its first year of operation (2004-2005 school year), the school was located on the campus of Rancho Pico Junior High School, housing only 9th grade students and faculty. It has since moved to its own campus, housing students 9th through 12th grade. The school is also noted as having the highest API Score two years in a row of any school in the Santa Clarita Valley. The school in 2007-2008 is facing over crowding with its capacity at 2,600. It is 71 students over its limit. West Ranch High School was also visited by WASC this 07- 08 school year and received a 6 year accreditation, the highest you can receive. It is also the first school in the Santa Clarita Valley to receive such accreditation.

[edit] First Graduation

The Class of 2008 is the first graduating class in the history of the high school. On May 30 2008, The Class of 2008 graduated at local College of the Canyons. The first ever salutatorian was Amorette Jeng and first valedictorian was Joanne Wu.

On October 22, 2007 the school was surrounded by the "Magic" fire. The fire did not get any closer than the gates and the hills bordering the school. The school was already closed that Monday due to the fire risk, however the school was closed for an extra day due to unhealthy air conditions. The school suffered smoke damage to the gym and other buildings.

The school has won numerous awards and accolades, including national recognition in various academic programs, along with its 94% passing rate on the California High School Exit Exam. In particular, the school's video, music, and FBLA programs have won numerous regional, state, and national awards.The West Ranch High School Band and Color Guard won first place at the SCSBOA Division 3A Championships in Long Beach, CA, giving the school its first state title.
