[edit] Middle School Expansion

In March 2006, West Plains Middle School, was offered a US$2.8 million grant by FEMA to expand the school, adding a shelter. The expansion includes a multi-purpose area, serving as a gym and the cafeteria. There is also a pair of restrooms, and a concession stand for sports events, being run by the Student Council. The school offices were also moved into the new building. The entrance to the expansion has now been made the front entrance. The expansion also caused extensive remodeling and rearranging of the school.

The building cost a total of 3.8 million. $1 million of it was paid for by the school district, with the rest paid for by FEMA.

On August 17, the third day of classes, the building was featured on KY3 News. [1]
