[edit] History

The club was formed in 1879 and played in the VFA until the end of the 1880 season. They returned however in 1899 and had a much longer stint in the league, winning their first and only premiership in 1906 by defeating Footscray in the Grand Final 7.8 (50) to 5.9 (39).

In 1908 they merged with North Melbourne in the hope of joining the VFL. North Melbourne wore a red sash on their guernsey during the season but got rid of it the following year.
