West Ice

The West Ice is a patch of the Greenland Sea covered by ice during winter time located north of Iceland, between Greenland and Jan Mayen.

Seal hunting has been going on in this area for a long time. Around the date April 5, 1952, the West Ice accidents occurred, when during a severe storm 5 sealing vessels went down and 78 Norwegian seal hunters perished
