[edit] History
A Church of England school had been open for over 15 years in West Green, when the Local Education Authority first set up a temporary maintained school in 1951 as part of the development of Crawley New town. [2]
The permanent building opened in 1952 as an infant school, with a junior school opening in 1953 in the same building. It began to accept upwards of 60 pupils per year. However, in 1985, when re-organisation of education provision in the west of the town took place, the school's junior department was closed. The school remained as a first school taking children between the ages of 5 and 8. At the end of this phase, pupils transferred to the newly-opened Ifield Middle School.
In 2004, Crawley schools were again reorganised. Initial proposals were to close the school, with pupils all transferring to Northgate Primary School. However, following local action, the authority reviewed its plans. The school was retained as a primary school with a single form of entry.[3]
[edit] Organisation
The school maintains just one form of entry, meaning an intake of up to 30 pupils each academic year. Pupils are taught in one of seven as of September 2006.
