West Aceh Regency is a regency (Indonesian: kabupaten) in the Aceh province of Indonesia. The seat of the regency government is at Meulaboh.
The regency is among the hardest-hit areas during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. On December 26, 2004, the earthquake struck off the western coast of Sumatra and subsequently produced tsunamis, the event of which had reportedly killed over 220,000 people around the rim of the Indian Ocean.
