[edit] Administration

Wesleyan Academy has a School Director and two principals, one for the elementary level and another for the high school level. The current director is Dr. Gloria Cordero. Mrs. Nivea Davila is the elementary principal and Mrs. Ingrid Pagan is the high school principal. Since Mrs. Davila came to this position the elementary level has experienced a boost in enrollment. To date all elementary level grades include at least three sections. Wesleyan Academy is accredited by many prestigious organizations such as the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Christian Schools International.

[edit] Academics

Academic instruction is offered in English except for a limited number of lower elementary classes, Spanish language classes and 7th grade P.R. History. Special Spanish courses are offered to speakers of Spanish as a second language.

The curriculum fully utilizes available technology and resources. Students are expected to attain a high level of competency in each subject matter. The academy offers a variety of curricular and co-curricular activities designed to promote academic excellence and spiritual development, manifested by a lifestyle consistent with Scriptural values and principles. In addition, physical education, music, choir, art, and computer instruction are offered. Every year a handful of our students also attend the Presidential Classroom in Washington, D.C.

The guidance department, consisting of a social worker, guidance counselor and spiritual life coordinator, offers guidance and counseling services to all academy students. Information concerning universities and colleges is available through catalogs, computer programs, college fairs and an annual career week. Students take the PSAT in both sophomore and junior years. Wesleyan Academy students score above local and stateside averages on the College Board and SAT exams. All Wesleyan Academy graduates go on to college in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.

[edit] Campus Life

Campus Life at Wesleyan Academy is rich and varied, an excellent environment for learning and growing. The academy's before and after-school programs, co-curricular activities, services and facilities are designed to enhance the overall academic experience, while staying committed to Wesleyan Academy's emphasis on Spiritual Life. Part of it's vision is to create a superior learning environment for our 800+ students by providing a safe and welcoming atmosphere that fosters personal and spiritual growth, and a sense of community.

Students can also participate in activities such as: the National Honor Society, the Student Council, Math Competitions, the Library Club, the Computer Club, the English Forensics Club, "Liga Oratoria" (Spanish Forensics), the Math Counts, the United Nations Club, and other activities such as: creative writing contests, Yearbook Club, high school retreats, chaplain groups, elementary and high school choir, Cheerleading, Tutoring / Mentoring, and the highschool "Career Week".

In addition to all year-round student activities, Wesleyan Academy seventh graders participate in a one week "School Without Walls" retreat at the Boys Scout Camp on the Guajataka Reservoir each year. It is truly a unique class bonding experience for 7th graders each year.

[edit] Spiritual Life

School is a time of growth and challenge for every student; a journey not only of the intellect, but also of the spirit. Wesleyan Academy's rich and diverse Spiritual Life program is designed to provide opportunities for all students to find pathways to spiritual fulfillment. Our Spiritual Life Department seeks to provide a place of support as students face new ideas about the world around them, and create a safe space for students to question and grow in matters of faith.

The Spiritual Life Coordinator (SLC) is responsible for overseeing the discipleship groups and Spiritual Emphasis Week activities, working with class chaplains (grades 7-12), working with class retreats and lock-ins, providing for chapel speakers and programs, and offering spiritual guidance to students and their families, as well as Academy employees and their families.

[edit] Sports

Wesleyan Academy's mascot is the American Bald Eagle. The academy is currently a member of the Puerto Rico High School Athletic Alliance also known as the PRHSAA. Students are involved in an active athletics and physical education program. W.A. students participate in inter-scholastic sports with schools associated with the Puerto Rico High School Athletic Alliance. All practices and games usually take place after school. Athletic facilities at Wesleyan Academy consist of an outdoor basketball/volleyball court, a softball field, and a modern, well-equipped, multi-purpose gymnasium complex. Wesleyan Academy has varsity, junior-varsity, juvenile and mini-teams (elementary level). In recent years students have been able to observe an increment in the school's athletic offers including a wide variety of sports that were not played by the academy before including golf and swimming. These in part thanks to the efforts of Wesleyan's Athletic Director Mr. John Roman.
