Wesley Jonathan Waples was born in Los Angeles, California. As a child, he spent four years living in Germany and traveling throughout Europe which gave him an open view of different various groups of people and their cultures with his mother and two siblings. He is the middle of three children including his two sisters, Rachel and Loren. He went to public school until his senior year and had to finish the year home schooled. Jonathan enjoys basketball, volleyball, swimming, singing, and dancing.

Moving back to the United States, Jonathan spent long periods in front of the television learning lines from various sitcoms and movies. He became so persistent in his demand to be on television that his mother met with one of the family members, cousin Crystal, who suggested to seek him an agent. Jonathan landed his first job in a music video the age eight for Melissa Manchester. Soon after, he began working on 21 Jump Street, which also starred Holly Robinson and Johnny Depp. He traveled to Canada, where the show was being filmed. Acting quickly became a career for Jonathan as he landed numerous commercials and guest starring roles. This broad range of television made Jonathan considerably more seasoned than his peers.
