Wesley, how's it coming? Separating the FACs that are waiting for Raul, or use non-reliable sources, this is now our longest-running FAC. Can indopug or Tuf-Kat's concerns be resolved? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:34, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I'm looking for people to help me out with the creation of this article, care to lend a hand? --CmdrClow (talk) 09:11, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Because the entire run has been building toward this event, there is already a wealth of information through every issue which can be used in the article. --CmdrClow (talk) 09:33, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hulk (Comics)

One note off topic. THANK YOU for the book recommendation. I've been hoping to get Iron Man up to a good GA before the movie, and could NOT get any help sourcing his communist bent. Comic Book nation does that well! ThuranX (talk) 00:01, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

In library now, will check it out tonight. It's wan on actual Hulk analysis overall, esp. in relation to Grest. Weinberg's science of superheros, or Simcha Weinstein's Up UP and Oy vey, but it'll help, no doubt, with Hulk, and hopefully other articles. I'm also looking at Tales to Astonish, by Ronin Ro, but... it' a bit more history of Marvel than of the characters, and covers most of the major character creations ins a paragraph, LOL - shows that the focus changes the coverage. [edit] Popular Music Sites

Hi Wesley,

You mentioned that PureVolume, being a website for bands to host mp3s, is not suitable as a source. Is this because a source should be a 3rd-party human being who has done original research or synthesis? I realize that PureVolume (and any site that collects and presents data about usage) can present results that are made inaccurate through sockpuppets, but it still ends up being less slanted and biased than human beings, don't you think? Dscotese (talk) 00:45, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kitty Pryde

Hi Wesley. Thanks for helping out with the page. I haven't read that issue yet, but I did read an issue summary, so I tried to edit it back to standards. Thanks for fixing that one, though. At least that nonsense is over now.Luminum (talk) 05:54, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Nirvana

Are you still working on a style and influences section for Nirvana? The article could use some cleanup and more info, especially considering it is a FA. —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 01:02, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Back

I'm now able to edit Wikipedia regularly for a change. Thanks for watching over the TFA/R page while I was away; I'm sure I'll be able to post a request soon, as most of the current ones are before the 20th. I guess my main issue was the fact that I haven't had an article featured on the main page yet; I can think of a few reasons why. I remember nominating Pixies on the old WP:TFA/R and watching it slide down the list for about a year! By the way, I plan to resume my work on The Replacements, but I'll be able to help. Any articles in particular that you're working on the moment? (which reminds me, I should really finish Double Nickels on the Dime's music section.) CloudNine (talk) 21:57, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I'm done with the Charming man page, and moving on. Did you see the sock puppet activity on Outriggrs page? Very worring and illegal, and to beat it all it decendeded into a hug fest. I hate hugging; if you were an admin I'd ask yopu to block the man for being the way he is; a right, total fucking fecker. I have the flu today; have a cat standing on my head looking for food, but do not have energy to save him...Probably I could make it down the stairs, but I fear for the likelyhood I'll make it back up. [edit] Janet Jackson

hello,

Since you've done such fantastic work on various musical artist's pages, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind giving the Janet Jackson article a quick overview and leaving some comments on the article's talk page, esp. concerning the article's introduction and the validity of the sources of various statements. If you do, thankyou in advance. Bookkeeperoftheoccult (talk) 06:59, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou for all your input! Bookkeeperoftheoccult (talk) 00:04, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi again, I was wondering if you happened to agree with the current criticism of the JJ article presented in FAC. I want to maintain critical distance, but it seems like there is an undesirable focus on the superbowl, which is heavily discussed in the article and has its own independent article as well. Plus, it bothers me somewhat that I've seen several music artist articles that are less comprehensive than JJ and use far less diversified sources that are still promoted to FA and kept as FA after going through FAR. You don't have to reply in FAC, I just wanted a outside opinion. Bookkeeperoftheoccult (talk) 21:46, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

thats cool. I'm not a significant contributor to the MJ related articles. I just help out at times when User:Realist2 makes a request. Thriller obviously needs some work, im not sure why they pulled the request for peer review. Bookkeeperoftheoccult (talk) 00:32, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello again. One of the things that came up in FAC for Janet was a "musical style" section, which I must admit I'm lost on. I'm sure I could get the ball rolling, but I need a place to start. I know she's done about ever genre of music, but I don't know how to describe her style. Any suggestions? Bookkeeperoftheoccult (talk) 08:57, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I was wondering, is there anyway to cite a CD case itself? I'm working on Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 and there's a tiny bit of info in the packet that i can't find online. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 23:05, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
It's the dedication to her mother on the interior.

This album is deticated to my mother, Katherine Jackson. I have never known a more beautiful, caring, loving, understanding and intelligent woman than you, mother. Someday I hope to be exactly like you. I love you with all my heart.
-Janet

I guess it could be considered trivial, but it seemed nice enough to be mentioned in the article. Thoughts? The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 23:12, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] In Rainbows

Thanks for your help in getting it featured. I'm deciding on whether to work to get OK Computer featured - which looks relatively easy - or working on some non-Radiohead related articles, probably (What's the Story) Morning Glory. Atlantik (talk) 11:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Silly reply

I'm into most alt rock; right now I'm listening to a lot The Strokes and The Libertines, and am working on their discographies (Do you like either of them?). I plan to work on Is This It sometime in the future; thing is for me its easier to source (online) newer bands compared to old ones. I wouldn't mind working on R.E.M. discography with you in a week or so. indopug (talk) 10:00, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Vitalogy looks good enough for FA pending maybe a slight CE/cleanup and a an oversee of sources to check for comprehensiveness. Sure I'll help out with Mellon Collie, I love the Pumpkins. Also don't hesitate to ask for music samples, especially of popular songs, I think I can take care of that.
I was hoping you could help with The Libertines discography; that's pretty much done except for the the second para of the lead, the overview of their career. Do you see anything to be added and improved in "Touch Me I'm Sick"? Once I'm in the mood again I'll polish the legacy section and send it to FAC. indopug (talk) 10:35, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hey

Hey i noticed your verey good at getting articles up to FA. Ive nominated the Thriller (album) for GA statues. I was wondering if you could read it and leave some advise on the talk page about possible improvements. I only want to get it up to GA statues (wiki would never give a MJ article an FA statues anyway lol). Yours Realist2 (talk) 14:24, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Yikes, i really have no idea how to do all that, thanx for the advice though. Cheers. Realist2 (talk) 22:37, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: The Chronic

Hi, thanks for the tip, i never tried any of those sites for sources so i'll go through them and have a look now. By the way, what do you think of the article ? It's been on the GA nomination list for ages, hopefully it'll be reviewed sometime this year lol. Again, thanks. - Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 16:59, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Blur

That would be 13 onwards right? indopug (talk) 08:38, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

You think we can include a promo pic under fair-use? The band have broken up haven't they? indopug (talk) 08:48, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Rowntree and James, on CC2.0 license with permission to modify the images; so i think they're cool to use without asking permission. Only thing is I don't know Photoshop and can't remove the red eye in the Rowntree pic unless I use something crude like MS Paint. Here's a set of good James pics, but they're all with a "No derivatives" license, so I don't think they can be uploaded at Commons. Do you want to ask the uploader to change the license? indopug (talk) 07:25, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I guess I could start later in the day. How exactly would we go about this (together)? I make the tables, you handle the sourcing? I'll fix up a table for Studio albums tonight based on Nirvana discography. Also, I imagine that R.E.M. would have charted everywhere, so which world charts should we include (because there might be too many). indopug (talk) 07:07, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

I think the best way to handle that re-issue situation is to list the single in the table at original release date but list the higher chart entries, with a asterix ([I]} pointing out "_____ single charted higher in UK when reissued in <year>" and maybe also a "Only higher charting listed here. Another thing, listing B-sides may not be necessary at all; read Drewcifer's comments here. Then again, if there are noteworthy B-sides, it might be better to list them. indopug (talk) 10:18, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey should we back up the print sources in Studio albums with those from everyhit.co.uk, RIAA, and BPI so that readers can easily verify for themselves? Also while searching on any of the chart sites check for variations like "REM" too; BPI didn't show anything for "R.E.M."! R.E.M. Live should be in a live albums section. indopug (talk) 11:23, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] American revolution

Ideally a lead should reflect events both proportionally to their actual importance and proportionally to their coverage in the article, as is described in Wikipedia:LEAD#Relative_emphasis. It is true that the French involvement isn't covered as much as it should be, but the French entry into the war, their aliance with other European powers, their financial contribution, their fleet being involved and their participation n the battle at Yorktown are covered. This, combined with the actual importance importance of the French involvement for the success of the revolution, makes it legitimate, in my opinion, to include it in the intro. -Duribald (talk) 09:50, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree it's really bad, although it's not badly written - it's been edited into FUBAR. I'll replace it with something better when I'm back from risking three reverts blocking. -Duribald (talk) 10:16, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't have to be an edit war - although the policy is there to prevent them. The exceptions are rather few and "When in doubt do not revert." But I'll do it as soon as possible- -Duribald (talk) 10:37, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hoodoo Gurus not New Wave?

In editing Hoodoo Gurus (HG) recently you contended that HG are not New Wave and so suggested that this genre should be removed from the article. As I understand it New Wave evolved from punk and one of its sub-genre's is Power pop. Whilst HG are often referred to as college/alternate rock this disregards their earlier punk/post-punk work as Le Hoodoo Gurus (see Australian punk rock site for examples).

Another reference for HG initially being Punk/New Wave at review of Tunnel Vision.

Furthermore, many references to their Power pop style are given by sources within the HG article.

I dispute your contention and believe the article should retain the New Wave genre appellation. A copy of this note has been added to Talk:Hoodoo Gurus.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:27, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply at my talk page, I've cut and pasted it to Talk:Hoodoo Gurus and will direct my future replies there. I'm hoping to get other opinions on this discussion.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:48, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Alt Rock source

Dear Mr. Dodds,

Nice work with the Alternative Music WP. I am new to WP, and have recently been made aware that, as an editor at the online mag Crawdaddy!, I am guilty of COI. I am only making non-controversial changes at this point, and making known my magazine's work on talk pages (as well as reverting links that I have added over the past few weeks and putting them on talk pages for discussion). That being said, I noticed your call for sources on the Alternative Music WP, and wanted to point out our site if you hadn't seen it already, as it deals, in detail, with alt rock and music Crawdaddy!. Thanks for reading,

[edit] Eminem

You removed templates from the Eminem talk page, noting that they were unnecessary and redundant. I'm not sure what ones you decided were unnecessary, but the WPBiography templates are for two separate work groups. In terms of those work groups (Musician vs. Actors and Filmmakers), Eminem has much different priority levels (some projects call it importance), since his prominence and priority as an actor isn't nearly that as a musician. Since there is no way to separate the priority levels one on template at this time, two are necessary. In all cases, when an article is put under a project, the template is necessary to track the article in terms of the project and needs to remain in place in order for that function to work. I've returned the ones that were removed for this reason. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 04:47, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] REM UK Chart placings

Unfortunately, the 2 sources I have don't go beyond 2001, and one only includes top 100 chart placings. There's a web page showing the chart positions between 1995 and 2000 here which includes placings in the top 200 (basically anything that sold at all I would guess), and I have another source (MC Strong's Great Rock Discography book) that has UK and US chart placings up to the end of 2001. Strong's book is pretty reliable and doesn't have a UK chart placing for "Wendell Gee", but it could still have charted outside the top 100. I'll check my sources against your draft and let you know if anything disagrees.--Michig (talk) 19:22, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I've found a few discrepancies/additions, some of which might be a bit of a pain to incorporate, as a few singles were reissued at various points with different B-sides:

  1. Murmur reached #36 in th US apparently
  2. Dead Letter Office: UK #60, US #52
  3. Eponymous: UK #69, US #44
  4. The Best Of REM: UK #7 (issued Sept 1991)
  5. The One I Love - reached UK #51 on first issue (1987), didn't chart on second issue (1988), reached UK #16 on third issue (Sept 1991)
  6. Stand reached UK #51 on first issue Jan 89, but UK #48 when reissued Jul 89.
  7. It's The End of The World... - UK #39 when reissued Dec 1991.

I think that's it - all other positions are as listed in Strong's book. The source for this, should you wish to reference it in the article is...

Strong, Martin C. (2002). The Great Rock Discography, 6th edn.. Canongate. ISBN 1-84195-312-1.

Let me know if you need any more detail. Cheers.--Michig (talk) 19:47, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I've found more (from www.everyhit.co.uk, which only includes top 40 hits):

  • Bad Day - #8
  • Animal - #33
  • Leaving New York - #5
  • Electron Blue - #26
  • Wanderlust - #27

[edit] A few things

Hey, any plans for a "B-class article improvement drive" again (May–June maybe)? I think we should start moving stuff from the workspace to R.E.M. discography, cause even though a work-in-progress, its still better than the actual article. Have you seen Maynard James Keenan, now at FAC? The biography is band-wise rather than chronological and I'm not sure it works that way. On the PR, the editor told me the bio got too complicated if arranged chronologically, but I'm still not sure. Too much of the info seems more suited for his bands' articles. indopug (talk) 07:36, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

The reason I haven't been adding to the discography is that Big Brother restricts my internet access in college (entertainment sites are blocked). I can't even access the soundonsound.com link :(. You should add a comment at the Keenan FAC asking them to wait, it might close soon I think.
Big gaping error in Alice in Chains: a quote from an article from the Facelift era (1990) is being used to describe the music on Dirt. indopug (talk) 10:24, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thriller

Firstly could you PLEASE archive your page, do you know how long it took me to scroll down here?

Ok now thats out the way, i need your help with Thriller, i saw your message at bookkeepers page, the Thriller 25 mess has been resolved so ANYTHING is possible, even if its just some advise on the talk page, it would be very helpful. lso the quicker it becomes FA, the quicker i can get outta this place. Cheers. Realist2 (talk) 09:55, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

No need to worry about reliability, that was already checked with the first FA review. All sources were checked and adjusted accordingly, thats ok. Realist2 (talk) 10:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to look at Thriller (album). You stated you did not have time until the end of the month, but I was hoping you could answer one question about qualification for FA. How does the article look in terms of passive verbs? I've been doing a lot of rewrite on that but if it looks okay I want to devote my time to other editing issues. Thanks!--DizFreak talk Contributions 19:29, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Frusciante pic

Tell me about it. The one that was deleted (God only knows why) was awesome. It's going to be really difficult to find one, as most professional photographers are extremely stingy when it comes to releasing their work into the Creative Commons. I searched practically all afternoon for another one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. NSR77 TC 15:54, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Motivation is a fickle bitch, ya know? On another note, do you have any access to Audacity or something along those lines? I'm in need of someone to cut a live version of "Under the Bridge" for the article. NSR77 TC 19:06, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm not quite done with the article yet. I've still to add a "Cover versions" section, which is where I plan on adding Flea's feelings towards Yankovic's (terrible) cover. The article also needs a good copyedit, which I have not yet done but may do tonight if I don't go out. Anything you want to add about it? NSR77 TC 00:02, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" has a lot of the categories I wanted to discuss; I took a quick look at it before I started writing "Under the Bridge" and then after I finished realized the similarities. You certainly laid some great groundwork in song articles, though I've noticed most songs are not significant enough to support some of the categories present. "Under the Bridge" has a lot written about it, being the highest charting alternative song I can think of, but it's just not quite as secular as "Teen Spirit". I still think it is your best effort, perhaps paralleled only by Smashing Pumpkins. NSR77 TC 00:21, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
I really want to work on Disintegration next. I've decided the album has successfully infiltrated my top five favorite albums of all time. I just got Never Enough in the mail, another great bio by Jeff Apter. Do you want to help? You know Cure sources better than I do. NSR77 TC 02:57, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Have you ever seen the clip of him getting pissed off during an interview when he was asked to give three reasons for someone to purchase their new record? He flips out, assaulting the guy. It's quite hilarious. NSR77 TC 03:12, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

If Year Zero does not get promoted again, or if it isn't done in the next couple days, this will be the first time WP:ALM hasn't had a promoted article every month since early 2007. Never thought it could happen. NSR77 TC 21:59, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Its really strange how so many significant editors to the project suddenly became inactive. Where has CloudNine been? NSR77 TC 01:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Haha, Chad actually has a lot more of a role in the "Under the Bridge" than some videos. He's shown throughout but is superimposed with Flea onto images of Anthony, so it’s not just clear shots of him. Flea probably has the smallest part in "Under the Bridge" than any other video. He's usually pretty important. In the video for "By the Way", Chad only appears once, at the end; all he's doing is flagging down a cab. In an interview where they talked about the video, he jokingly commented "I did all my own stunts." NSR77 TC 13:51, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll take "Under the Bridge" to FAC in late May, but it really depends on whenever someone feels like getting around to the GAC. Work on Disintegration will surely continue into early to mid June, but I'm targeting an FAC for somewhere around early/mid July. I really want to get my hands on a copy of the NME Goth special; I've been probing every nook and cranny of Ebay for it, but so far nothing more than a PDA file that isn't worth the 7 dollar price tag has come up. While we've got our minds in the topic we might as well push The Cure to FA status, as well. Other than that the only projects I have in my immediate future are Mother's Milk, Uplift Mofo Party Plan and Stadium Arcadium, which I hope to complete by the end of the summer. My ultimate goal is to get every Chili Peppers album featured, and then shoot for a superior featured topic. Other than stuff right now, what about you? And big ideas? NSR77 TC 19:07, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't say that I don't like Pearl Jam, I simply feel they're overrated. I also think they rose to the top way too quickly and were ultimately riding the popularity horse already started by Nirvana and the Chili Peppers. Keep in mind Pearl Jam were originally the opening act for the Peppers and Nirvana after Irons begged Kiedis to allow it. Though, the band showed a lot of endurance up until the past decade. Now a days they're barely a threat in pop music. When do you want to begin on Disintegration?
I'll start this weekend, when I have more time to reread the era in Never Enough and check some other sources. Favorite Cure song? NSR77 TC 16:16, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
My personal favorite Cure song is probably "Disintegration". It's absolutely astounding, riveting, and beautiful. "From The Edge of the Deep Green Sea" and "Plainsong" are also awesome, along with "Fascination Street", "The Kiss", "One More Time", and "To Wish Impossible Things", among many others. Their pop singles, while great, aren't as good as their lesser known material (to me), although I adore "Love Song" and "Lovecats". NSR77 TC 23:39, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

...is Neil Young's best song. It generaly gets hammered in reviews of On the Beach, but I think it is great. Discuss. Ceoil (talk) 12:03, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Disintegration could be a brilliant article. Lots to say about that album. Go for it! Ceoil (talk) 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, his court case always stuck me as odd. Of course they had to fire him; he was an acholic mess, could only play keyboards if coloured stickers told him what to do, and was prone to going missing. "Yeah, they were right to fire me". Such self awarness. Listen to Mrs Merton's (Hookie's wife) opening q to Debbie MacGeehere; surely equal on a level of obviousness. [edit] Disco R.E.M.

For the albums chart or the singles? Do you know the formats the albums were released in? indopug (talk) 05:47, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Do you think an article like "Like Suicide" merits redirecting to the album page? A;though its not a single, the band have talked about it quite a bit. indopug (talk) 06:12, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I have unrestricted access to the internet now. I'll read that article and get back to you. We should also check whether useful stuff from all the Superunknown-related articles from the Stargate fansite have been incorporated. indopug (talk) 07:37, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there was anything useful in that ew article; except maybe a comparision with Robert Plant/Led Zep and "psychedelic grunge with Indian overtones." to describe the album's sound. indopug (talk) 09:00, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm planning to submit "Touch Me I'm Sick" to FAC soon, a copy-edit/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, indopug (talk) 14:07, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Gah, I got really caught up today in school work. I'm sorry. Tuesday we'll start for sure. NSR77 TC 00:26, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
"Give it Away" is a great song, but by no means their best. It's the only Chili Peppers song that Frusciante uses his solo-work signature style of backwards guitar, which makes it special in some ways. The video is amazing. Frusciante and Flea were incredibly high, if I remember correctly. Stéphane Sednaoui is one of the best music video directors and every video he's made with the band is rad ("Scar Tissue", "Breaking the Girl"). I'll spruce it up in between work on Disintegration. NSR77 TC 02:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Although I haven't played video games in over two years, GTA IV just came out and I've been disgustingly enthralled by it. I'll start this weekend, I swear. :) NSR77 TC 21:44, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Album charts for Badmotorfinger

Hello Wesley. There's a user who keeps adding charts from Kerrang! and Eye Weekly to the chart positions section of the Badmotorfinger article. I've been removing them under the position that they are not notable and would lead to a slippery slope as far as what charts could be included in the chart positions section. I'm wondering if you could add some input to this. Thanks.-5- (talk) 17:21, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Madonna

I was wondering, how is it Madonna was classified by the RIAA as the Best Selling Female Rock Artist of the 20th century? After reviewing her albums, I see she's done a few rock-oriented albums, but is it simply based on the fact that she out sold pure rock-based artists/groups? The great thing about the Wired doc, is that Hook, Morley and Wilson spend a fair amount of time giving out about London, vs. Manchester. I really identify with that, as a Corkonian living in contempt of the self-satification of Dublin. My mother hasn't been in Dublin since 1976, which is amazing as its only up the road. I asked her why, and she said why would I want to go there? Ha! Exactly. The doc has footage of strawberry studios, and has Gretton bitching about both Morley and Corbijn, in a Noel-like way. Ceoil (talk) 23:34, 23 [May 2008 (UTC)
The doc was made just after the substance comp was released, and when asked "why now, why was it released at this paticular time" Wilson goes into a long superlative ramble about legacy and distance, while Gretton says its to "help us with our little tax problem". I though I had an ace in my seleve with the Waterboys' "We will not be lovers". But the bastard is not on you-tube. I was going to go for Van Morrisons "Ballerina", but thats not there either. [edit] Joy Division

I saw that you reverted most of my edits to the Joy Division article. I posted some comments on the article's talk page, maybe you can look into these issues. Thank you. – Ilse@ 10:03, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Done ;)

Put DNOTD up for GA. My perfectionism probably means I've lost motivation to edit Wikipedia at the moment; before my editing level dropped (massively), I had writer's block on Bad Moon Rising, The Replacements, DNOTD.

Hopefully I'll be able to work on those, and expand Kim Deal. The trouble I have with quite a few articles is that I have plenty of sources up until a point (and usually write a lot of content), and then find it very hard to continue it to the finish. It sucks!

I appreciate the walking wombat on your talk page by the way. A nice touch. Much happened in the alt. music project while I've been "away"? CloudNine (talk) 23:17, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Piper LP

Hi Wesley, I see you re-applied your removal of 2 items on The Piper at the Gates of Dawn page. I have not edited the page again, but I'm still questioning these changes. I'm fairly new at WP, and have many Pink Floyd pages on my watchlist to gain experience in using WP, and take an interest in new changes, often reverting. When I see info removed, I consider the efforts of the person who put it in originally, as well as the concerns of the person who removed it. Here are my thoughts about these edits:

I have never seen a guideline that says an album should ideally have only one genre, but maybe that's not your reason for making the change. "Space rock" was undoubtably added in reference to "Interstellar Overdrive". I do recall an interview where someone (Waters?) dismissed the idea that IO is a pioneering example of space rock, or is space rock at all. Maybe that's why you removed it? I suspect members of PF and other bands often have opinions about their own work which vary greatly from their fans, and this is a good example. I don't see how a case can be made for saying IO is NOT a classic example of space rock. Also, the track is so different from most others on the album, and I think this justifies listing more than one genre.

Regarding removal of the review, I am concerned about how Pink Floyd, a British band, has so many Americanized references on WP. In fact, the reason I have so many PF pages on my watch list, is I noticed someone complaining on a talk page that most of their albums had US but not UK chart statistics, even though their early material had much more chart activity in the UK, and where both were present, the US stat was usually shown first. I agreed this should be changed, looked up info on the UK chart websites, and updated relevant pages. Getting back to reviews: on the Piper page, there were 6 reviews, of which 4 were American websites, 1 was a British magazine without website link (presumably printed review, non-website), and 1 British website, which is the one you removed. Your edit summary says "not a notable reviewer", so maybe it's the reviewer rather than the website you object to. I would question whether this reviewer might be better known in the UK than the other American reviews are. (I'm not located in the UK, so I don't know the answer, but it seems a reasonable guess that he might be.) I read the review, and I don't see anything that makes it, or the reviewer, or the website less professional than the others. So I don't see the problem, and I think it's good that we have at least one linkable review from the UK in this article.

Let me know what you think. Thanks! --A Knight Who Says Ni (talk) 00:50, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I've asked for opinions about it on the talk page, and reverted so others can see what was being removed. Please wait for some replies before changing the article again, so we can determine some concensus. Thanks. --A Knight Who Says Ni (talk) 08:42, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Cure and Carliertwo

Hi. Following a comment on my talkpage I left this reply on the above editors talkpage. I hope that the two of you will be able to resolve this matter between the two of you, and my only comment upon the content is that since it is cited and quotes the article subjects mainstay - and has been included in the article since early this year - I feel it is up to you to prove the case for the removal of the text. However, like I said it shouldn't be a matter needing outside intervention except perhaps inviting the views of some other article editors to provide the appropriate consensus. Cheers. [edit] Knockin' back Prozac

I've laid out the basic structure of the article. I need sourcing help mainly for the Recording, Composition and Video sections--there's been more than enough about the Battle of Britpop on the Internet (in particular, I found an excellent 2005 John Harris Q article reprint), so I'll handle that. Thanks, indopug (talk) 20:12, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Warning: There are genre disputes, plagiarism allegations and disputes sales figures on a scale we hardly ever see at the ALM. (Worse, I've heard serious rumblings from the major Zep editors to consider Coda as the ninth studio album)
Do you have access to Blur: 3862 Days, The Official History? This seems to be a reprint, but we'll need to check for accuracy and find page numbers. indopug (talk) 08:45, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
The Sabbath article isn't evil enough yet; not enough about the devil worship and what-not. User:Skeletor2112 whipped it into shape, and I contributed to the peer review, but he's hardly been on since. I'd blame the article length's on too detailed touring information. BTW, here is said discussion and there is no way this edit is gonna stay that way. indopug (talk) 17:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Woah! I didn't know they actually went through with it. I just saw the talk page discussion until now. There's an edit war at the band template's page too. I'm gonna be totally Zen though. indopug (talk) 17:52, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

How about something by the Cocteaus...I've only heard Treasure. indopug (talk) 11:53, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I doubt they even reviewed them at all; music was so not the point of the Battle. And could you ask Raul to make the necessary change? indopug (talk) 23:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Sure thing. I'm surprised you haven't mentioned "About a Girl" in Background; wasn't it a "sign of things to come"? indopug (talk) 08:10, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Just curious: do you have any idea what Zep/Page and Sabbath/Iommi thought of each other's music? I've heard both bands referred as influential tons of times, but never the one talk about the other. indopug (talk) 21:32, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I'd say the first four of those wouldn't pass an FAC right now. Motorhead kinda disintegrates in the bottom half too. indopug (talk) 22:49, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Are The New Radicals alt-rock? If so, our Wall of FAme needs updating. indopug (talk) 23:13, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I should be flattered, but why do I get angry when I see this? moved your comments on my talk to the previous section by the way indopug (talk) 14:56, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Totally agree with you on that one; I never saw what the big deal was with them. I guess they were a lot more sexual than the other three. I have plans of working on "Bittersweet Symphony" and making the Stones come out like the soul-less corporates they are. indopug (talk) 22:01, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm, any 64-year old who would wear a head-band would make me suspicious. Another band I just can't see the point of: Deep Purple. They're alright and all, but when they are mentioned in the same vein as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, it pisses me off. indopug (talk) 22:26, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Heh, I don't 'really' like them; actually I don't even know them too well beyond their singles. But their's is a great story, worth writing about (I figured). I just want to get a couple of their major articles up to good/featured status. indopug (talk) 08:23, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, after you wrote about it in the article (it isn't on Best of Blur). indopug (talk) 08:51, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I have access to the Classic Album video; working on the Who seems to be more stress-free in terms of dealing with Good-Faith editors who don't have a clue. I redirected more than 70 song articles back to their articles (and left a note about it at the Who "Wikiproject") and the only grief I got about it were from two editors for Who-unrelated reasons. We should transfer stuff from the R.E.M. discography workspace to the article, by the way. indopug (talk) 22:37, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I just noticed. What do we do? indopug (talk) 02:21, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Actually the case is different from Cite Web; because the output display is so different. There's actually a suggestion at the bottom of that talk page "{{songTitle | 5 | I love beer | happypal | 3:30}}" to give "5. "I love beer" (happypal) – 3:21" which is a much better solution IMO. indopug (talk) 02:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Even more pointless for NIN... indopug (talk) 02:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
EDIT WARRRR. The link he provides doesn't say that we must use a table too "Although the use of tables to display lists is discouraged (because it introduces unnecessarily complex code and makes editing difficult), there are some instances where they can be useful, such as when three columns and more are required." indopug (talk) 06:39, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bridge

I'll see what could be cut out of the article regarding "Give It Away", but the thing about his biography is pretty irrelevant. He revealed the song's meaning dozens of times before publishing Scar Tissue. Plus he discusses all the band's major or significant songs in the book, including lyric excerpts. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary with "Under the Bridge". On the Disintegration note, I'll start soon. I've been really hard-pressed what with exams several weeks ago and flying back to NY, where I am now, and getting used to the time shift. I'm here until the end of June, giving me plenty of time to do some work. Speaking of The Cure, I'm going to see them on the 20th and 21st at Madison Square and Radio City, respectively. I'm ridiculously excited. Unfortunately, their new single left more to be desired. As much as I've tried I can't seem to like post-Wish Cure. NSR77 TC 23:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Charts

Sure no problem. I've got the 19th edition of the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles & Albums which covers all the Top 75 releases for both singles and albums from the beginning of the charts to 2006. It also seems to have the odd entry that goes up to the Top 100 - but I'm pretty sure that's not anywhere near comprehensive. It doesn't cover compilation albums though. A useful website I've found in addition to the book is The Zobbel Website! which covers higher listings in the charts but only for limited date ranges.

Just let me know whenever there's anything you need looking up, or is there anything in particular you'd like me to look at now? --JD554 (talk) 07:12, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Foo Fighters

I reverted your edit removing the other projects section as I think that other articles like U2 have this to briefly explain what constituent members do outside the band. I realize there is nothing there atm but I'll add some stuff about Dave's drumming appearances and Chris Shiflett's bands - they are mentioned in the FF navbox, but hardly expanded upon at all in the main article. Tenacious D Fan (talk) 10:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay fair point. I won't revert you if you wish to take the section out. On another note, I completely missed your first message about sound clips. I'll get that done. I'll do a few - the ones you suggested, and some more (if they are not required then they can be deleted). Tenacious D Fan (talk) 10:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay with this. I intend to create oggs for all the singles, and all the album pages as well. Is this a good idea? Tenacious D Fan (talk) 15:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NIN man

Hey man, thanks for the note. Yea, I do plan on working on some NIN-album articles soon. Ghosts is at FAC right now, and YZ will be soon. So I guess that leaves the earlier ones, huh? If you could dig up some older sources that would be awesome man. I'm definitely planning on picking up the 33⅓ book on Pretty Hate Machine whenever it (finally) comes out, but other than that I'm pretty source-less. So any help along those lines would be totally appreciated. Drewcifer (talk) 19:50, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Yea, Amazong says April, but everwhere I look it says it's not been released yet. link. Very strange. Drewcifer (talk) 22:04, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] peer review

I'm seeking a peer review for Batwoman and Batgirl if you'd like to take a shot at it. How've you been btw? Haven't chatted with you in a while. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 23:07, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Methinks no one care about these women. lol. that whole rant on having few FA articles a few months back and there are 3 prime candidates. There haven't been any responses on the project page. Hope all is well. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 23:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the review. I made some adjustments to the article and left two comments/concerns to the review. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 06:37, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm a little flustered. I don't own No Man's Land and I'm having a hard time finding reliable sources describing Cassandra Cain's introduction online. Do you happen to own the graphic novel? The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 07:02, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I specified which issue it was. I just can't seem to find the details for Cain's intro as of yet. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 07:42, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Do you have any final notes? I'd like to close the peer review for Batgirl. Also, will you be reviewing Batwoman? It think that article may need more work than Batgirl. Thanks again for your input. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 08:24, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Wesley, I understand about the Wiki policies on sources. No further mention of the website will be made to the opener, but having checked my copy of Guiness British Hit Singles I can confirm the original statement is true, to the best of my knowledge. [edit] The Beatles‎

Date of formation: Basic it may be; certain it is not. Was it at the Woolton Fete? Was it when Best joined, or when he was kicked out in favour of Ringo, or was it somewhere in between when Johhny & The Moondogs became the Silver Beetles or when they finally settled on "The Beatles"? That's why I used the word "moot" in my edit summary. You tell me when they actually "formed". --Rodhullandemu 00:03, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Beatles

I strongly suggest you stop editing without achieving consensus, lest anyone accuses you of taking ownership of this article. Editors who have been around for a while are not generally best pleased by other editors, however well-intentioned, arriving and saying "I'm going to do this", and just doing it. It doesn't work like that, even though you say it can be reverted, and I guess it will be. There is a proper pace and structure to be followed, and a culture of existing editors to respect. I'm going to try & get some sleep here as it's now 03:37 am, but I'm pretty sure I will be expected to clean up the mess tomorrow. Just please don't leave me a bloody battleground to mop up. Festina lente, as they say. --Rodhullandemu 02:37, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

You may have a degree in English; I have some degrees too but that doesn't give me any right to override consensus anywhere. However, I'm going to go to bed now in the hope that you will work *with* other editors and not *against* them, and before I block you for disruption, because as I have pointed out to Realist2, I would be criticised, if not de-sysopped, for that. Tomorrow (and tomorrow, and tomorrow...) --Rodhullandemu 02:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Joy Division Zune

Although I doubt it's noteworthiness, I think BurningZeppelin will have been referring to this. --JD554 (talk) 09:25, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

It truly is appalling, as are the other bonus tracks on the 2003 reissue (with the exception Never Stop). I'm not sure why record companies insist on using early versions as bonus tracks – if they were any good they'd have been on the original – rare b-sides, live tracks etc fair enough, but early versions suck.--JD554 (talk) 11:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Which proves my point, they're live versions from the Life at Brian's and Crystal Days sessions and "Angels and Devils" was a b-side. --JD554 (talk) 11:38, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, will do --JD554 (talk) 08:54, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cheap Trick

I really don't know how someone gets to be an expert in music on Wikipedia, but it's great for a conversation subject. Pretty darn vast to even think of. I saw a few on the Alice Cooper page that was priceless. The amount of jaded comments was just a turn-off. Vicious kids.

I saw that you were brought in to show your intellectual strength on music. I guess you must know that Cheap Trick's performance at the Budokan is legendary in not only Japan but worldwide. The 1978 album gave them the success that still carries on today thanks to classic rock stations. Yep, they even crossed over to the new-wavers back then. I remember this well growing up and seeing them live. They had an instantly recognizable sound which made them who they are. Even spoke to them about it on numerous occasions.

This is what I love. You did delete quotes from Rick Neilsen about their tour with Queen that Cheap Trick were noticed by a Japanese jounalist. That man who later wrote about them in Japan and led them to worldwide success. From your point of view this means nothing. Try telling that to them. Rick Nielson's thankful for the magazine that started their career's success. I believe you did delete that. Shame. Seriously, this is priceless information about the career of the band taken away on Wikipedia. I would never delete someone's contribution on Wikipedia when rhey spent time typing it out. I don't understand this kind of mentality. I have recently read that people tend to stay away from Wikipedia for this reason. Kinda inevitable to say the least. I hope it was carefully thought out with what you did. Really. I want to tell you about the truth's I am seeing here. I had a similar episode on the Alice Cooper page. The pitter of tiny feet racing to their parents keyboard ready to delete anything that was relevant towards recent 2008 information. A dubious act.

Anyway,Cheap Trick in Japan are more than happy to have made that album I wrote of. Cheap Trick returned to Japan for that reason alone. Again it was deleted on their page by you. Vital career information scratched off about thanking Japan for their continued success with a 30th anniversary concert. Too bad you choose to take it away. I guess it is nothing special, right. Means nothing. You have been informed. But for some reason I don't think you really care.

Thank you, Electric Japan (talk) 07:25, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I got nothing against information, but it has to be useful. That was. It was out of the mouth of the musician.

I am really having a hard time with all this on Wikipedia. I'm pretty upbeat about it all, but this is just too much.

In the end, it's about current infomation.

By the way, I hope you read what I said to you previously.

Thanks.

Wesley, I just read your point to the CT article. I just can't get it how something like this could be a problwm when it's suppose to add to the article in question. I use to spend more time on here but that has all changed the last few months. Productivity is a good thing when it is used to benefit others on Wikipedia. I tend to write too much about everything really, but this is not going the way it should for a writer or fan of this encyclopedia. If it wasn't relevant then I would not of put it up.

Thanks, Electric Japan (talk) 15:13, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] More NIN!

Hey man. I was wondering if I could ask a favor. I've currently got Year Zero (album) at FAC, and am doing my best to keep up with the suddenly very active FAC. One user suggested a copy edit from another user. Think you could help me out on this one? Even a quick once-over and stuff would be appreciated muchly. Either way, thanks again for those awesome NIN sources. I plan on working on the earlier albums shortly. Drewcifer (talk) 06:27, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Funny you should mention that: I love doing tables! You got yourself a deal buddy. Drewcifer (talk) 06:37, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Good stuff, thanks for the offer. Is this the one your talking about? Drewcifer (talk) 22:49, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Of course! I used that one like 20 times in the Year Zero page. Drewcifer (talk) 02:33, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

So I did what I could on In Bloom and Lithium. I came across a few problems finding sources for alot of the charts, so I labeled those with {{fact}}'s and what not. Lemme know if there's anything else you need. Drewcifer (talk) 15:23, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Teen Spirit revert

Hey, I'm wondering why you reverted my earlier edit to the Smells Like Teen Spirit article? Thom (talk) 23:34, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

What of the section header renaming, and the extra track listings in the infobox? Surely "Musical composition" is a clearer title than "Composition"? And "Release, success and acclaim" would probably suit a different context, such as a band biography? The song also appeared in more than one official album by the band; should that not also be mentioned in the infobox? Thom (talk) 09:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
I can honestly say I've never listened to them. What is their magnum opus? I'm assuming you are fond of The Cure, when d'you propose the Disintegration article should be tackled? Thom (talk) 10:28, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kerrang! Legends: Foo Fighters, 2007

Hi there! Sorry to bother you, but I just happened to catch a chat of your with M3tal H3ad from last year, and saw you have the Kerrang! Legends Foo Fighters edition:) I'd like to ask if you could send the text to me in any form, scan it maybe, or I don't know. I'm not sure how long it is, I guess it's not short, so if I'm asking too much, nevermind:) I just ask cause it sounds like a great source (although I have tons of others), and I'll be working on the FF article later, and I am currently working on The Colour and the Shape album (making it a FA hopefully). So, for starters, the parts about this album would be more than enough.. So, that's it:) Thank you very much in advance. Gocsa (talk) 11:29, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, but since I don't know what's in it, I don't know if I need any citations from it:) I don't know if there's anything new in it, I guess so since it's a pretty long and comprehensive summary of the band's history. For example, if there's anything about the second album by the band members/producer/critics/etc. in retrospect, I'd definitely want to know:) Maybe I'll ask some other Foo fans, or the fooarchive.com if they have it:) Gocsa (talk) 22:18, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Some stuff about the tour might interest me, but it's possible I won't need it, I'm only in early stages of the article's development:) There's a 1997 Guitar World article up on the fooarchive.com, here, is it the same? Gocsa (talk) 22:24, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Hey, by the way, sorry to bother you with this, but does this page work for you, or is it only me who can't see anything? I mean, it opens and I see everything, the years on the left, and I can click them, but then no text appears, none of the years work. Gocsa (talk) 23:07, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
