[edit] EM SPACE / EN SPACE
Could we possibly kill the unicode EM SPACE and EN SPACE characters and replace them with CSS padding, rather than relying on characters? I have a pretty diligent unicode font setup and these spaces just print ugly boxes (i.e., I can see all the Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Cyrillic, Korean, Japanese, Chinese and IPA characters, but not these)
Here's an example using padding-left and padding-right to ensure an em's worth of space in each of the title cells:
