[edit] Toll Rate Fluctations and Controversy
Can anyone find information regarding the toll rate increases that were to finance a new interchange south of Interstate 64's southern interchange? I am out of the area and can't do a lot of fact checking for a while. Thanks! Seicer 21:06, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] General Cleanup and Rewrite...concern about sources
I just finished a general cleanup of grammar and usage and such, and removed a fair amount of material which seemed to me to represent a POV. This is probably the most controversial road in America, as so many people feel passionate about it in one way or another. I also created a "trivia" section, and moved some material into that, but it needs to be pared down, IMHO. I was concerned about appropriate sourcing, especially since the Christopher Monday link is broken, and most of the article is based on that source. I have left the link in, in hopes that somebody can fix it. I removed a fair amount of information about tolls and bonds and such that I considered one-sided...I could see replacing some of that if the opposite POV were also presented. I was born around the time the turnpike was originally built, and have been either driving it or riding it with my parents since that time. I can still remember the smoldering gob piles all along its length, and have flown over it enough to be aware of all the strip mines cleverly concealed just out of the sightline the of drivers on it. I was fascinated by some of the history in the article, but I do think it still needs some cleanup. Have at it! Cmichael 05:15, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- I have an issue with the 'Future of the Turnpike' which was almost entirely snipped. Those details went into the toll rate increase and what would have been as a result. There was an excellent PBS documentary on the Turnpike which I am trying to get a copy of -- and would make for some excellent supplemental sourcing throughout. BTW, which source is this that you removed (please cite a revision so I can see if I can pull it up somewhere else). Cheers Seicer (talk) (contribs) 05:23, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- This is the source I am concerned about: name="88miles">
Monday, CHristopher R. "The West Virginia Turnpike: 88 Miles of Miracle." March 2, 2003 [1]. It is listed as source #1 in the article. I didn't actually remove, but I tried to access it and the culturehistory server timed out. I was hoping somebody could fix the link.
I took out a lot of the material on what would come out of the toll rate increase, as I know this was a controversial topic, and I thought the oppostion's POV should be presented as well. Have fun! Cmichael 18:01, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
