[edit] Selection of news items

This section of the portal is very well maintained. There are daily updates - sometimes even more than one items per day. However, the quality of selection of the items is not always convincing. Some of the items appear more like supplementary items on newspaper - not really worthy of space on the main page of the portal. An example would be - criticism of attack on Taslima Nasrin (Aug 17, 2007). While the attack is certainly an important news - the criticism of it should not be a main headline news for West Bengal portal. I encourage involved editors to be more selective in news item choice. Sorry for the delay in response. Taslima Nasreen is a citizen of Bangladesh, living in West Bengal. The attack was at Hyderabad. Therefore, it was not covered in the West Bengal portal. The reactions quoted were West Bengal reactions, not those in Hyderabad. Sometimes, it is the reaction that makes a news important, for example the Lal Salam for Jindal (today's news) - P.K.Niyogi 00:08, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I get it, now. P. K., I'd like to take this opportunity to appreciate your excellent effort to keep this page regulalrly updated. However, there is one more area you could focus on to make a little bit of qualitative improvement here. Could you please re-word the headlines a slightly at the time of posting to make them more self-explanatory? News lines like: "Awash and left stranded" or "Rizwan death heat on top cop" could really use a few more words giving them a bit context. Arman (Talk) 01:32, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
