A western conifer seed bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis. Captured in my kitchen, and photographed with a Canon Digital Rebel, EF 50/1.8 and an extension tube. Cropped from the original (available on Flickr, see below) and slightly contrast-enhanced. Identified by the Wikipedia reference desk; confirmed by Prof. Carl Schaefer of the University of Connecticut Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department. |
