Were Babu

Were Babu is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Wollo Zone, Were Babu is bordered on the south by Kalu, on the west by Tehuledere, on the north by the Semien Wollo Zone, on the east by the Afar Region, and on the southeast by the Oromia Zone. Towns in Were Babu include Bistma and Bokeksa.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 123,557, of whom 62,886 were males and 60,671 were females; 7,921 or 6.41% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 12.4%. With an estimated area of 765.34 square kilometers, Were Babu has an estimated population density of 161.4 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 173.56.[1]
