Wendo Kolosoy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wendo Kolosoy was born in 1925 in northern Congo. A singer and boxer, he started playing around the capital Kinshasa with his band Victoria Kin. His first hit, in 1948, was the evergreen "Marie Louise". Although he never achieved the international success of Papa Wemba or Zaiko Langa Langa, he is universally recognised as one of the fathers of modern African music and an elder statesman of Congolese Rumba.
Kolosoy gave his last public appearance in Kinshasa, Congo in 2004. The last known recording from that time, "Banaya Papa Wendo" was released on the IglooMondo label in 2007.
