Well log

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A well log is a specialized strip chart used for well logging of boreholes. A well log usually has several geophysical measurements, including porosity, permeability and resistivity and may also include geological interpretations of lithology. The well log is recorded by lowering a string of electronic devices into the borehole of a well on the end of a multi-conductor cable. The equipment is lowered to the bottom of the hole and then slowly raised at a constant speed while recording the data from the formations it passes. Schlumberger is one of the world leaders in this technology.
