Welcome Break is a company which operates twenty-six motorway service stations in the UK. The company was originally owned by Hanson subsidiary Imperial however was sold to Trusthouse Forte in 1986. Trusthouse Forte merged the company with its own motorway service area company Fortes and adopted the Welcome Break name across the entire estate. After the takeover of Forte Hotels Group in 1995 by Granada, Granada was ordered to sell 27 of the Welcome Break sites by the monopolies and mergers commison. The company was bought by Investcorp in 1997. Investcorp sold Welcome Break to Appia in March 2008 for £500m. Typically, Welcome Break service areas have cafes (which differ between location) that include KFC, Burger King, Eat In, Coffee Primo and Red Hen (no longer available)[1].

Recently Starbucks opened at Welcome Break's Corley services on the M6 motorway, it is highly unlikely that Coffee Primo would be replaced by Starbucks in the future.

At Welcome Break service areas, petrol stations are either Shell or BP. Hotels at Welcome Break are mostly Days Inn; there are a small number of hotels branded as Welcome Lodge.

WHSmith Stores will opened at Welcome Break motorway service areas in late 2007

March 2008 sold to APPIA Consortium for undisclosed fee.

Welcome Break changed their logo in September 2006. The "swan", described as a "dead duck", has now disappeared and has been replaced with a new logo, featuring a black background, with the words "welcome" and "break" in green and white respectively[2]. Each site now also has a large mural depicting a local land mark unique to that site.
