Welch Allyn

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welch Allyn, Inc. was founded in 1915 and is today a leading manufacturer of innovative medical diagnostic and therapeutic devices, cardiac defibrillators, patient monitoring systems, and miniature precision lamps. Headquartered in Skaneateles, New York, USA, Welch Allyn employs more than 2,300 people and has numerous manufacturing, sales, and distribution facilities located throughout the world.

A fourth generation family-owned business headquartered less than ten miles from where it was founded in 1915,[1] Welch Allyn is a rarity in American business--still family owned and still based primarily in the United States. According to the Center for Family-Owned Business, only 30% of family businesses make it to second generation, and only 10% of family businesses make it all the way to the third generation. [2] Currently, the company has two fourth generation family members involved as executives helping to manage day-to-day operations, and three fourth generation family members serving on the board of directors.
