Template talk:Welcome-anon3

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Okay, I just created this Welcome template to be used for IPs who make good edits. As well as being just a general welcome, it also encourages them to sign up. Feel free to edit this initial idea. Any suggestions? --Dmcdevit 04:28, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • A question: How do you get the template to have you talk page linked. Once I use the template I can't have my talk page linked. Falphin 22:05, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • Oh, (I really haven't been welcoming as much as I should). Well if you go like this: {{Welcome3|Falphin}}, it should show up as: --Dmcdevit 22:29, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

"==Welcome!==

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Newcomers help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I noticed you are known only as an IP address; that means you are not signed up. To sign up, you only need to click Create account and choose a username and password. You don't need to provide any personal information. If you sign up, you'll have a username that others can use to recognize you and leave you messages on the wiki. You'll be able to sign your name just by typing four tildes (~~~~) when you leave someone else a message. Plus, you (and others) will easily be able to see a list of all your contributions to Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, ask at the Village pump, or feel free to ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!"

    • And I like to subst: it in so that it appears more personal, you know? --Dmcdevit 22:42, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Similar template

I found a similar template and believe both should be kepted but I thought I would link it here. Falphin 8 July 2005 21:31 (UTC)

[edit] IP address

There should be an internal link to the encyclopedia page for IP address. Many people (especially anonomous users) don't know what IP addresses are.

[edit] Bottom not working?

The bottom of the template isn't working for some reason. I don't know enough about these technicalities to fix it myself, but the "ask me on my talk page" bit is not linking properly and has a line at the bottom that's indented. See this edit from my personal sandbox to see what's happening. --Icarus (Hi!) 22:16, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I've removed the stuff that's supposed to make it link to your talk page. I don't know how to make it work correctly, and it's messing up the template. If someone knows how to make it work properly, go ahead and add it back. --Icarus (Hi!) 20:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
