Image talk:Welcome to McCarran.JPG

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Unless Vegaswikian works for the Clark County Department of Aviation (operator of McCarran), and secured permission to use this image, I suggest it is likely a copyvio. It is available for download at the McCarran airport website.[1] And that site's Terms and Conditions clearly preclude unauthorized use. --N35w101 18:53, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I'm sorry, but you should not assume. I took this picture, with my own camera and as such, it is not a copyvio. I can provide you with the full image that this image was cropped from. It is in no way, shape or form copied from the airport web site. The picture was taken from the kiosk with the terminal map that is located in front of the sign, from the left side to be precise. If you look closely, you will see that the image is at a slight tilt, left side is higher. I don't believe that the McCarran image has this problem. Vegaswikian 19:44, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
    • Vegaswikian, I was following through on an entry on your own Talk page since I didn't see a rebuttal there, or on the image page. May I suggest you enhance your "Photo by Vegaswikian" with that information, to address the question of origin? Of course, use of the image might still be touchy. LAS is a customer of mine & we've used images taken there in publications. I believe we had to get permission. They're understandably concerned with their public image. I can't find any guidance on that via their website. --N35w101 22:03, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
      • As a result of that first question I added a GDL and that it was a picture that I took. What more is needed? Yes, to do commerical shoots you probably need permission to work in the airport. But to say that everyone who takes a picture there needs to get the airports OK, would seem to fly in the face of copyright law. Vegaswikian 22:48, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
        • Probably nothing more is needed. Sorry if you perceived my initial entry as a personal attack - that wasn't the intent. You're photo's just so close to the airport's version it obviously caused someone (unidentifed) to question it. They just put the question in a non-intuitive place, so I brought the topic over here and got the ball rolling. As for permission to use, "everyone" may take pictures -- not everyone publishes them for wide distribution to the public. And keep in mind that McCarran is a government property, which implies certain restrictions probably exist. Chances are, though, it will never become an issue. Just mentioning it for consideration. BTW, I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV. It would be instructive to have someone with relevant legal expertise make a comment. --N35w101 04:42, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
          • I did not take it as a personal attack. This was just the second time someone raised an issue about the source of the image. Of course having an article slapped with a copyvio when the source was my edits in creating it in within another article may have had some leftover sensitivity. Vegaswikian 05:13, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
