Weissensee is a resort town within the Southern Limestone Alps on the shore of the Lake Weissensee in Carinthia, Austria. Centre of the town is a bridge crossing over the lake, first mentioned in a deed dated 1348.

Weissensee is one of the few municipalities in Austria with a Protestant majority. Not until the 1781 Edict of Tolerance by Emperor Joseph II they were allowed to worship in a Bethaus ("pray house" - not a church). The church of today was not built before 1900. Until 1968 the name of the commune was Techendorf, it has been changed for tourist reasons. Summer tourism around the lake is the main component of the local economy.
