[edit] Image tagging for Image:RIVERSIDE THEATRE 1.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:RIVERSIDE THEATRE 1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image source problem with Image:RIVERSIDE ROMEO & JULIET small ii.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:RIVERSIDE ROMEO & JULIET small ii.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:32, 15 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mayalld 08:32, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:RIVERSIDE ROMEO & JULIET small ii.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:RIVERSIDE ROMEO & JULIET small ii.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Mayalld 08:32, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:RIVERSIDE ROMEO & JULIET LARGE.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:RIVERSIDE ROMEO & JULIET LARGE.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --OrphanBot 09:07, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dated cleanup tags
Hi, thanks for your message, SmackBot does not generally add tags, but merely dates those that are already there. In this case DanielRigal added the {{Tone}}. Regards, Rich Farmbrough 08:55 1 February 2008 (UTC).

[edit] Shakespeare
Thanks for the reply. I came across Riverside several times in the last few days and I wondered if someone from there was moving thru the WS articles inserting their name where ever possible. I'm all for clever advertising gimmicks, but I wanted to make sure someone wasn't using Wikipedia for that reason. Thanks again, and good work on the may articles you have contributed to. RE my other comment - don't think Ashland opened with R&J. Because of their proximity I know Monterey Shakespeare Fest, Shakespeare Santa Cruz and Carmel Shakespeare Fest did not.Smatprt (talk) 14:20, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- I was wondering why I had not heard of them. When did they go out of business and why?Smatprt (talk) 20:29, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks for the info. Sad to hear the story of another theatre (and of such repute) go down. As Executive/Artistic Director of a regional rep company for 26 years now, I do indeed know how hard it is to produce equity Shakespeare and keep a balanced budget. There's the rub. - I figured we were a band of brothers :) Yup - still at the helm, but recently (just) split my job and am now simply Executive Director, bringing on our first (other) Artistic Director this year. I'm focussing on raising $6M for a capital campaign to rebuild our aging theatre. We are Pacific Repertory Theatre, the only year-round equity theatre between San Luis Obispo and San Jose, on the central California coast. 8-9 professional productions every year (including 2-3 Shakes), 2-3 children's productions under our SoDA program (School of Dramatic Arts), about 180 performances per year. We just opened our 370th production in our 26 year history. PacRep.org is our website. Hope to have a revamped website next month. Cheers!Smatprt (talk) 02:07, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm sure there are plenty. (As I had recalled, Ashland opened with Merchant). Good rewrite on the Riverside part of R&J. Whenever I see a "most" on Wikipedia, I usually question it, which is what first caught my eye re: your entry. I usually type in the edit summary - "Was there a survey?" Typically it's when someone writes "Most Scholars agree that..." having to do with Shakespeare himself (of which there are so many things that are just unknowable - ooops, veering toward that pesky Authorship issue again!)Smatprt (talk) 13:43, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Just didn't think Booth's choice of R&J warranted another section subtitle.Smatprt (talk) 03:34, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:RIVERSIDE_MANDRAKE_AT_SHAKESPEARE_GARDENS_53_small_REVISED.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:RIVERSIDE_MANDRAKE_AT_SHAKESPEARE_GARDENS_53_small_REVISED.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. [edit] Photo permissions
You can release the images on an official web site, e.g. as on http://johnlekay.com/gfdl.photos.htm with a link from the image page to that site. You can email "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org" (obviously replacing AT and DOT with the appropriate symbol) with a statement of permission. See Wikipedia:Requesting_copyright_permission#When_permission_is_confirmed for more details. Ty 13:47, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Some advice
Hi, if the images have been taken by you, or if you're the copyright holder, just send an e-mail to permissions-en (at) wikimedia.org: provide a link to the images, state that you're the copyright holder, and that you're releasing the images under a free license (such as CC-BY-SA or GFDL). Remember that you are the copyright holder for the photographs taken by yourself. But, you can't claim to be copyright holder for posters owned by a company, just because you scanned them or modified them to create new images -- you need to be the actual copyright holder for the original posters.
For any clarifications, you can seek help at Wikipedia:Image copyright help desk or Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. utcursch | talk 13:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image stuff
Hi, sorry about the torrent of notices... I use a script to nominate things, so it automatically spams your page. For the images that I tagged no source (and the other self-taken photos in the article), just leave a note that you took them yourself--that should be fine. For the posters, have someone at the theater company email permissions-en@wikimedia.org specifying the URLs and releasing them under a free license (see WP:COPYREQ); we need confirmation from the copyright holder (which is presumably the theater itself and not you, if you were an employee of the theater) to make sure that the release of these images under a free license is authorized. To edit an image page, just click edit at the top like you would an article; it will let you add any more informatino to the image page that you want. Mangostar (talk) 14:36, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, if the theater is now defunct (something that should be added to the article, by the way), this makes the copyright issues very complicated. It is possible that the poster images may be able to be used only under wp's nonfree image policy. Were you an employee of the theater when you created these images? Also, please add a note to any non-poster photos saying whether you took them or not. Mangostar (talk) 17:20, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- The problem is that since you were an employee, the theater (not you) owned the copyright. This is a case of an orphan work where the current copyright holder is difficult to identify. (Who acquired the theater's assets when it dissolved?) I can ask at WP:MCQ but normally we handle these the same way as any non-free image, meaning only keeping those that satisfy WP:NONFREE. Mangostar (talk) 22:58, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- When you said you were an employee, I assumed that meant you were on the payroll. If you were just a volunteer who knows who has the copyright (probably you?) and I certainly wouldn't worry about it. Please add a note of this on the image pages and at the IFD so people know the circumstances in which these posters were created. (And on the image pages, where you say that a photo was created by W. Stuart McDowell, can you write in parentheses User:Weimar03 so people know that is you, for later reference?) There are also other images on the RSC page I didn't tag for deletion--can you go through those too and add the necessary info about where the images came from? One image I was wondering about in particular is Image:RIVERSIDE SHAKESPEARE PROJECT 5.jpg, which has halftoning that suggests it might have been scanned from a newspaper. Thanks for clearing this up. Mangostar (talk) 00:24, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, if someone is an employee the copyright in their work is owned by their employer (absent an agreement otherwise)--see work for hire. The examples you name may be people who are independent contractors (for whom this doctrine does not apply) or those who contracted specifically to keep the copyright in their work. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:LAURA KEENES THEATRE SMALL.jpg
Hi Weimar03!
We thank you for uploading Image:LAURA KEENES THEATRE SMALL.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

[edit] RSC photos
Thanks for your hard work. I may check through them later--if I have any more questions, I'll ask on your talk page. Mangostar (talk) 14:58, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- I put all the photos back on the page--looks like OrphanBot was taking them off. In the future, whenever you add a source to an image page you can just remove the source needed tag at the same time (if the tagger disagrees that the source is sufficient they can replace it later). Good work on The Winter Garden Theatre (1850), by the way. That's quite an impressive article! I'm sure you found it much easier to be dealing with images from so long ago where copyright is not an issue.... Mangostar (talk) 23:27, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry again for the delay, I just wrote on the IFD page that this has all been resolved. Hopefully there will be no more issues. I see that another eagle-eyed image patroller has contacted you about the poster, and it looks like your explanation did the trick. Mangostar (talk) 01:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image:RIVERSIDE SHAKESPEARE SEASON POSTER 1982 SMALL 2.jpg
Can you explain how you are the copyright holder of Image:RIVERSIDE SHAKESPEARE SEASON POSTER 1982 SMALL 2.jpg? Do you own the copyright to this work? Corvus cornixtalk 23:33, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. Do you still own the copyright, or does the Riverside Shakespeare Company? Corvus cornixtalk 16:36, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Great, thanks. Just wanted to make sure all of the ts were crossed and is dotted. :) Corvus cornixtalk 18:49, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
