Just outside of the Weippe is where the Lewis and Clark Expidition came across members the Nez Perce Nation. The Expidition was low on food suplied and had butchered a horse for eating days earlier. The Nez Perce took the starving Americans to camp where they debated what to do with them. The Nez Perce decided to feed them and send them on their way.
