[edit] Comparison's with other economic recovery programs
Yom identified that sources were need for this....he was right, I misquoted it as being the Civilian Conservation Corps instead of the Marshall Plan. Oops, thanks for catching that Yom. Merhawie 00:08, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Title
Is Warsai Yikalo the best name for the page? It doesn't seem to be the most used name in English or even the most correct transliteration. "Warsai" seems to be the most often used first word (even though Warsay is more correct since there are no dipthongs in EthioSemitic languages), but Yikalo seems to be a neologism. It completely ignores the ayin (or is it a glottal stop/hamza/elf?) in the middle of Yikalo (i.e. "Yika'alo" or "Yika'alo" or Yike'alo" or "Yikealo"). I don't speak Tigrinya, but you seem to, Merhawie, so can you spell it using IPA? Is it pronounced "Yəkäʿalo" (ʿ is ye-aynu "a" in Amharic but the Tigrinya sound)?

I have heard/read all manner of spellings. For Warsai -
- Warsai
- Warsay
For Yikalo -
- Yikalo
- Yikealo
- Yik'alo
- Yike'alo
I decided to use the spelling found most recently on the Official Eritrean Government Website Shabait.com. I figured that since it appeared on its website that I would respect their choice. As far as any true correct spelling, I leaving that to the centres of Eritrean languages in Asmara.
Furthermore, that is the simplest spelling that would make sense to me and I have seen it used on a building in California. Note that this argument is pretty ridiculous as it is the difference between Cafe and Caffe. Merhawie 02:48, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see why this argument is ridiculous. I just want it to be at the correct page. It's the same reason why I got Fasilidos moved to Fasilides, Sissinios (greek name not Habesha) to Susenyos, etc. The wikipedia rules say to use the most common English spelling, or if it is a technical or obscure subject, use the most correct spelling. - Ok this is what I did. I went to Google and typed in "WWY Eritrea" to get the most common names for the program (Wefri Warsay Yikalo). These are the returns in order of their precedence.

- My conclusion is not only should Wefri Be added to the title, but that Warsay should remain at the front of the program name but that the second name should include the apostrophe in between the two "a's". This would seem to be the most "common" spelling in english using the Google Standard.
-
- As a clear statement I think it should be changed to "Wefri Warsay Yika'alo" from "Warsai Yikalo Program".

That's absolutely fine by me. I'll do the move now. Yom 23:55, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
