Wee Papa Girl Rappers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wee Papa Girl Rappers were one of the first female British hip hop groups to make an impact. The duo consisted of Sandra and Timmie Lawrence and were primarily active on the British music scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s. [1] The song Wee Rule is considered to be their most popular song and reached the #6 position in the UK. (Jive, 1988). Another song Heat it Up was a popular dance song at the time.
The group released two albums on the prestigious Jive Records before they split, but both at the time and now the group are viewed with a certain amount of embarrassment by the British hip hop community[1] because of their pop oriented approach. However, as part of the first groups to break through into the mainstream, they brought this new style of music to the attention of a wider audience and greatly helped the establishment of British hip hop - as well as paving the way for later British girl pop acts.
