Wedgie

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A wedgie (also known as a "snuggie" or "gotch pull") is the condition of having one's underwear or other garments "wedged" between the buttocks. This can occur naturally, due to tight garments or physical activity; this is referred to as the underwear "riding up". It can also be performed as a prank or as a form of bullying; this is referred to as "giving (a person) a wedgie".[1] Wedgies are commonly seen in popular culture for example on the popular American animated TV show The Simpsons and in Dilbert comics.[2]

[edit] Types of wedgies

  • The aussie style wedgie is where the underwear is puled under the waistband. The atomic/nuclear wedgie is a wedgie where the rear waistband of the underwear is pulled over the receiver's head. This is the most painful wedgie and also the rarest due to its near impossibility.
  • The atomic melvin is a wedgie where the underwear is pulled up over the head from the front. This is much more painful than any other wedgie for men due to the crushing of the testicles.

[3] This is demonstrated in the animated show The Mask where the main hero used "atomic wedgies" as a weapon against his enemies, especially on Police Lt. Kellaway and his partner Doyle. This was taken from a scene in the movie where he did it to a gang leader.

  • The Melvin is a wedgie where the victim's underwear is pulled up from the front.[4] This wedgie was demonstrated in the 2001 movie Zoolander where Ben Stiller (as Derek Zoolander) tries to win a modeling competition by removing his underwear without removing his trousers. He fails, and in the process gives himself a Melvin.
  • The hanging wedgie is a wedgie where the victim is hung from his underwear above the ground.[5]This was shown in the Malcolm in the Middle episode "Krelboyne Picnic", where Reese (Justin Berfield) is hung by his boxers on a wire fence by Eraserhead's older brother.
  • The Jock Lock is where the receiver has his underwear pulled over his feet, so as he struggles to get loose the wedgie gets worse.
  • The messy wedgie is where something, usually whipped cream, is put in the underwear and the victim is wedgied.
  • The All-sides wedgie refers to the condition of having one's underwear pulled up from all four sides
  • The Nutcrusher wedgie is were a man or boy is givin a wedgie from the front and back then hit in the testicles.
  • The Shoulder Wedgie is were the legholes go onto the shoulders.
  • The Self Wedgie is were the person giving the wedgie gives it to himself.
  • The Squeaky Clean wedgie is when two people give you multiple wedgies from the sides

[edit] Television

Elaine: Why do they call it a "wedgie"?
George: Because the underwear is pulled up from the back until ... it wedges in.
Jerry: They also have an Atomic Wedgie. Now the goal there is to actually get the waistband on top of the head. It's very rare.
Elaine: Boys are sick.
  • In the animated show, The Mask, the main hero used "atomic wedgies" as a weapon against his enemies, especially on Police Lt. Kellaway and his partner Doyle. This was taken from a scene in the movie where he did it to a gang leader.
  • In the Nickelodeon TeenNick show iCarly, wedgies feature frequently: Freddie (Nathan Kress) receives a ginormous wedgie from Sam (Jennette McCurdy)and shows his whitey tideys ; Jonah (Sam's boyfriend) is given a hanging wedgie; and in the episode "iGot Detention", Gibby receives at least two "Texas" wedgies, which apparently involve fire, as they leave his pants smoking.
  • In the animated TV series Ben 10, in the episodes "And Then There Were 10", "The Unnaturals", "Goodbye and Good Riddance", bullies JT and Cash give Ben a hanging wedgie and Ben gives the two bullies hanging wedgies as XLR8 for revenge.
  • In the Two and a Half Men episode Back Off Mary Poppins Charlie hugs Alan, and then reaches down and gives him a wedgie.

  • Author Joe Borgenicht wrote a children's book How to Give a Wedgie, containing advice on how to give a wedgie as well as several other "tricks, tips, and skills no adult will teach you".[7]
  • In the Dilbert comics wedgies are frequently used.[8]

[edit] Other

  • In 2007, eight year old Jared and Justin Serovich came up with "wedgie-proof" underwear at the Central Ohio Invention Competition 2007 where their invention got them into the finals.[10]
  • In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the main character CJ finds the tech-geek Zero hung on a hook by his underwear in a closet of his RC Shop. He had been put there by thugs hired by his nemesis, Berkley.
  • In Bully, Jimmy Hopkins, the player's character, can perform wedgies on unsuspecting characters.
