Weddington is a town in Union County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 6,696 at the 2000 census, the 2005 estimate is 8,465.

Weddington is located at 35°1′19″N, 80°43′55″W (35.022007, -80.731808)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 15.9 square miles (41.2 km²), of which, 15.8 square miles (40.9 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (0.69%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 6,696 people, 2,159 households, and 1,958 families residing in the town. The population density was 424.0 people per square mile (163.7/km²). There were 2,214 housing units at an average density of 140.2/sq mi (54.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.52% White, 2.06% African American, 0.27% Native American, 1.08% Asian, 0.42% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.06% of the population.

There were 2,159 households out of which 50.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 84.9% were married couples living together, 4.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 9.3% were non-families. 7.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.10 and the average family size was 3.28.

In the town the population was spread out with 32.5% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 28.9% from 45 to 64, and 5.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 104.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $97,617, and the median income for a family was $102,120. Males had a median income of $80,019 versus $38,750 for females. The per capita income for the town was $37,295. About 0.9% of families and 1.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.3% of those under age 18 and 4.3% of those age 65 or over.
