[edit] Twedgie???
Removing, ive never heard this before
[edit] Jim Jones
Does Jim Jones actually threaten to give people wedgies? Probably not. Funny though.
[edit] Sexual Fetish?
Tho it is respected for wedgiesd to be fetish for some individuals, it barely qualifies as a "subculture" of people drawn to i as the only source its the ling to the wedgie girls site.
If it is a sexual fetish subculture, then there should be desambiguation made as it no longer refers to wedgie as a school prank but rather as a bdsm term.

[edit] not used outside of the US (and Canada?)
someone keeps removing the line I added about this not being done outside of North America. Maybe I've led a sheltered life, but I've only heard of this phenomenom through American pop culture. So why was the line removed?
I live in the UKI and it is actively used here
- wah really?!! I've never heard it in my life except in american cartoons. --Krsont 11:41, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- second that it is used in the UK. For at least 12 years (almost certainly more). Bombot 20:29, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unsourced material from article
What follows is a bunch of original research, as far as I can tell. If anyone actually has a reliable source for any of this material, please cite it and re-add it. -GTBacchus(talk) 03:07, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
I don't have any source, but I believe the 'Hanging Wedgie' to be authentic, on the grounds that A) it is physically possible (unlike an Atomic Wedgie) and B) I have first hand experience of this, having been dangled nearly a foot off the ground. The wasteband suffers perminant damage from such a trick, and hurts like ****! Devilmaycare 17:29, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
shouldnt these types appear on the article if they have a direct cultural reference like on a tv show or movie, and use the name if its actually employed on the show? 69.79.197.34 23:43, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Anything that can be cited to a reference can be in the article; anything that appears to be original research may be removed. -GTBacchus(talk) 22:12, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
This is all stuff from Urban Dictionary, and we know what a reliable source it is (if anyone can't tell, that was sarcastic, since half the stuff on there is pure conjecture).
Basic variations
- [Regular] Wedgie
- described above.
- Frontal Wedgie, Japanese Wedgie, Melvin, or Redgie
- the frontal wedgie is the condition of having the victim's underwear yanked up from the front waistband, either squashing the testicles or wedging the underwear material into the vulva causing camel toe. This causes much discomfort.
- Mervin
- a combination of both the regular wedgie and the frontal wedgie, both the front and rear of the victim's underpants are hoisted upward, causing significant discomfort and humiliation. Difficult to perform with any stealth (and thus rare), this variation on the wedgie was popularized most notably by the early 1990s Nickelodeon show Salute Your Shorts. Can also be executed by a pair of wedgiers (one in front, one in back) synchronization of yanking is pivotal to ensure the deepest wedging......
Lesser known variations
- Footsie
- After tripping the victim or finding a victim unlucky enough to already be lying face down, one or both feet are bent back and their underwear is wedgied and the waist band is put around their toes (or the toe of their shoes.) It ends up exposing their rear and gets pulled tighter if they try to move their feet. If someone else is holding down their hands, all they can do is struggle and wedge it in tighter. Also known as a "Jock-Lock wedgie".
- Atomic Wedgie
- The Atomic wedgie may be an urban legend. The victim has his/her underwear pulled up over his/her head and secured on his/her forehead. Such was often done by the Mask on Police Lt. Kellaway and his partner Doyle in the animated series, "The Mask".
- it is poserble trust me but it herts like hell
- Nuclear Wedgie
- Purely a legend (concievably possible, but only if the victim has very large or very stretchy underpants), the victim is given an atomic wedgie, then the back end of the underpants are tucked back into the pants' front end, then pulled out behind the buttocks. The victim's hands are thrust through the leg holes (behind the back) and optionally secured, thus making it not only incredibly painful, but also immobilizing the victim. In the case of the hands being further secured, the victim may be constrained for hours. Because of this, their arms are pinned to the back of their body, so they could also be pushed over, unable to get up.
- One Piece Wedgie
- A variation on the atomic wedgie. It is performed as follows; a giant wedgie is given. The victim's arms are put through the leg holes and the leg holes are placed on the shoulder. The victim can then, optionally, have their hands tied to something above them, so they cannot reach the ground; then, the leg holes are trapped on the shoulders. Also, the clothes may be taken off while the wedgie is being performed, then put back on after and making the victim walk around with a giant wedgie. Also, their clothes can all be taken off (except for the underwear, of course) since the wedgie would cover the entire body like a leotard.
- Hanging Wedgie
- Performed by executing some form of basic type of wedgie, and then lifting the victim off the ground, and hanging either the tip of the underwear onto some form of elevated hook device, or jamming an elevated stationary pole of some sort through the underwear leg holes. For this particular wedgie to be authentic, the victim's legs must not be able to reach the ground. Sometimes the victim's clothes (except for the victim's underwear) is taken off. A variation is when the victim is bounced up and down (possible by being pulled and let go of) to make the underpants go further up the buttocks with each bounce, causing more pain, a.k.a. the "Bouncing Wedgie".
- Thwedgie
- A wedgie when the victim is wearing thong underwear, probably the only that the mojority victims are girls.
- Propeller Wedgie
- Induced by giving the victim a regular wedgie, then jamming some form of pole between the legholes, then somehow twisting the form around, tightening the material and wedging the material in the victim's buttocks. A Variation is when a shirt is then placed on the Pole, so they are stuck, also known as a "Scarecrow Wedgie".
- The Flying Dutchman
- Performed by grasping the victim's underpants and lifting him off the ground. At the same time, the shirt is grasped and then the person is spun around several times.
- Sky High Wedgie
- When the person delivering the wedgie grabs the back of the underpants and jumps, usually continually. The point is to get the cloth as far up the "crack" as possible.
- Ripper (or Super) Wedgie
- When the wedgie is delivered with so much force that the underwear rips.
- Rambo Wedgie
- A derivation of the Ripper Wedgie in which the waistband of the underwear is ripped off completely. The waistband is then put into a figure of eight and folded over in order to halve the circumference. The one-time owner of the pants must then wear his old waistband as a head scarf reminicent of the great Rambo character played by Sly Stallone. The invention of this variation has been widely credited to the collective Argentina Tour Bus of the 1999 St. Paul's School 1st XV.
- Bra Wedgie
- Given to a female, when the wedgie is given and the victim's bra is quickly unhooked and rehooked through the leg holes of the underpants. After that the bra is pulled up and the wedgie gets more painful.
- Pants Down Wedgie
- A combination of both pulling the victim's pants down (pantsing), standing on the pants and whilst the victim is trying to pull their pants up, performing a wedgie.
- Tape Wedgie
- The same as a normal wedgie, but the waistband of the underpants is taped somewhere inaccesible, thus not allowing for the wedgie to be undone.
- Grape Wedgie / Gredgie
- An obscure variation performed in British Boarding schools where students lives are regimented, such that all pupils in a dormitory will get dressed in the morning at the same time. School masters tend to maintain order through collective punishment, this prank is usually used in retribution following some group punishment. The student is cornered whilst dressing in the morning and their pants filled with grapes or any berry like fruit, whilst the pupil is restrained the pants are pulled up hard. The other pupils then quickly finish dressing the victim and send him out of the dorm to breakfast. Once pupils have left the dormitory in the mornings they are not permitted to return, the pupil must then spend the rest of the day with squashed fruit in their pants. For a particularly painfull prank an acidic fruit should be used so that it will irritate any sensitive areas covered by the pants.
- Gang Wedgie
- Victim is grabbed by group of people, who then give wedgie in any form to victim, as well as as many wedgies as the group decides to give and even combinations. This can end then in putting them in a footsie and leaving them alone to get out themselves
- Tied up Wedgie
- Victim is given a regular wedgie and then has their hands put through the leg holes of the pants. The hands are then fastened to each other.
- Wedgie Deluxe
- Victim is given a regular wedgie and then has string run through the leg holes. The string is tied to something else, with the victim rotated so as to be facing away from the object with the string running past their head. A group of people then pull on the victim's ankles.
- Drag Wedgie
- When the victim is pushed or tripped and then peforming a wedgie and dragging the victim by their underwear while still on the ground.
- North, South, East, West, Wedgie
- Done by four wedgiers. When the victim is given a mervin (wedgie in the front and backside) and also the sides, causing much discomfort and embarrassment.
- Bleeder Wedgie
- When a normal wedgie is given, but the victim's anus begins to bleed. This may happen if the victim has hemmeroids, or some other condition.
[edit] Popular Culture Reference and Redirect
The wedgie, "atomic" variation in particular, is a major plot device in the Seinfeld episode The Library.
Also, atomic wedgie redirects to List of school pranks. Atomic wedgie probably ought to redirect here (with a cleaned up section on this variant), and this page ought to refer to the list.

[edit] Request For Restarting This Article
208.57.68.160 17:43, 6 April 2006 (UTC)It's possible that many of the silly variations enumerated in the article are likely spurious. I still feel that if someone were to encounter the terms "Melvin" "Wedgie" or other, and they were interested in finding a definition for the reference, they should be able to find something here. As an encyclopedia that covers all aspects of culture, including popular culture and schoolyard pranks, I feel that a revised version of this article should be restarted and possibly locked. - Ben
- The article wasn't actually deleted. It was just blanked, and I've restored the text now. A lot of these funny versions (listed above) aren't verifiable, and that's why they're not in the article. -GTBacchus(talk) 21:28, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

I highly doubt a spanish teacher would tell me this, seeing as how that would be English.-Anonymous

- As this were just very short wedgies, I assume the American mother has some kind of mental health problem. Injuries do only occur after rather long hanging wedgies (if at all). Any case report from medical literature known? - --89.55.30.180 07:23, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion
I'm sorry, but I'm convinced that this article does not belong on Wikipedia. This is not appropriate for an encyclopedia. If you object, respond or it will be deleted when the tag is there for five days. --Bfissa 19:06, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- There is some verifiable content in the article. Can you explain what you find inappropriate about it, and maybe we can fix the article instead of deleting it? -GTBacchus(talk) 19:08, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- I guess I just didn't feel that this article belonged in an encyclopedia. This isn't something that many people would use for reference, I think. --Bfissa 01:47, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure that if there can be an article on the word fuck, then there can be an article about wedgies on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not censored. ChunkyKong12345 21:22, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- It has nothing to do with censorship. The question is simply whether or not sources exist to back up an article about wedgies, so that it isn't purely original research. Plenty has been written and published about the word "fuck", so there's no problem sourcing that. Where are the wedgie sources? -GTBacchus(talk) 02:52, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

- I agree with the original poster. This doesn't really need its own article. Either that or things like Wet Willy and Noogies need their own articles. Your choice. ~ Joseph Collins (U)(T)(C) 02:26, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Health Risks
Although it is often denied that wedgies can be dangerous, they obviously can be. I had a numb leg after I had a hanging melvin for 20 minutes (probably because of nerve compression) and I had some perineal injury, which was only healing very slowly, after another hanging wedgie. Both weren't really serious incidents, but I wonder what happens if someone receives an hour-long wedgie as it is claimed sometimes (or is this just an urban legend?). --89.55.30.180 07:20, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
