The World of Greyhawk Fantasy Game Setting is used to describe the first of a series of products describing and detailing the World of Greyhawk campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy roleplaying game. It is one of the oldest and first used campaign settings for the Dungeons and Dragons game growing out of Gary Gygax's own home game world.
These are the original publications that outlined the Greyhawk campaign setting, many subsequent works have updated or modified the information contained in them. The most significant of these include:
- The 1988 hardback book Greyhawk Adventures
- The 1992 boxed set From the Ashes
- The 1998 sourcebook Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins (winner of the 1996 Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Supplement[1])
- The 2000 sourcebook Living Greyhawk Gazetteer

The World of Greyhawk Fantasy Game Setting and the World of Greyhawk Fantasy World Setting are two closely related publications from TSR, Inc. that detail the World of Greyhawk campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy roleplaying game. The Fantasy World Setting was first published in a folio format in 1980, and is often referred to by fans of the setting as the World of Greyhawk Folio[2] or as the "1980 folio." The folio was supplanted in 1983 by the Fantasy Game Setting in a boxed set format, and is often referred to by fans as the World of Greyhawk Boxed Set, or as the "1983 boxed set."
Both publications were authored by Gary Gygax and were the first stand-alone offerings to provide detailed, comprehensive information regarding the campaign setting. The 1983 boxed set provides the more detailed treatment of the two works, containing a 48-page "Glossography" and an 80-page "Catalogue," which significantly augmented the more limited 32-page "Gazetteer" from the 1980 folio version. Both publications included full-color maps of the Flanaess, the geographical area that defines the campaign setting.

Greyhawk Adventures is an accessory for the Dungeons & Dragons World of Greyhawk campaign setting, written by James M. Ward and published by TSR, Inc. in September 1988. The 128-page book was the thirteenth and final hardback manual published for the 1st edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules, although a note on its cover claims the book is also compatible with the 2nd Edition AD&D system. Greyhawk Adventures contains information about Greyhawk deities, non-player characters, monsters, geography, spells, and magic items of the setting, rules for playing zero-level characters, and a few short adventures.
Greyhawk Adventures is unusual among AD&D hardcover manuals, in that the author solicited input from the gaming community about what subjects to include in the book before publishing it (Ward 1988a). Ward later credited the 511 letters he received as the major impetus for including the rules for zero-level characters and adventures, both topics that had not been previously included in hardcover AD&D manuals (Ward 1988b).
As suggested by the note on the cover, the contents of Greyhawk Adventures represent a transitional state between the 1st and 2nd edition AD&D rules (Bambra 1989). For example, the NPCs in the "Hall of Heroes" include monks, a 1st edition character class not included in the 2nd edition rules. On the other hand, the "Monsters of Greyhawk" chapter uses the 2nd edition's 2d10-based system for monster morale, rather than the 1st edition's d100-based morale system.
Unlike many of the AD&D manuals, Greyhawk Adventures was not reissued for the 2nd or 3rd editions of D&D, although much of its content was incorporated into other supplements. All but two of the monsters introduced in Greyhawk Adventures, for example, reappeared in the Greyhawk Adventures Monstrous Compendium appendix (ISBN 0-88038-836-6).
Greyhawk Adventures takes its name and logo from a a series of novels written by Gary Gygax and Rose Estes, published by TSR in the 1980s. The logo was later used on several 2nd Edition AD&D products, such as City of Skulls and The Marklands.
[edit] From the Ashes
From the Ashes is a Dungeons & Dragons gaming accessory for the game’s World of Greyhawk campaign setting. It was published in 1992 by TSR, Inc. as a boxed set of materials. The work was primarily designed and written by Carl Sargent.
The accessory was the first major update of the entire campaign setting to be published after the first boxed set, World of Greyhawk Fantasy Game Setting, was released in 1983. From the Ashes focuses on the situation on the Flanaess in the immediate aftermath of the Greyhawk Wars.
The tone of the materials is intentionally darker and more grim than publications set in the pre-Wars era, and was designed to re-energize TSR’s sales of Greyhawk-related publications. The set was followed by related adventure modules and sourcebooks by Sargent including The Marklands[3], Iuz the Evil[4], and City of Skulls[5].
The boxed set consists of two books, Atlas of the Flanaess and Campaign Book, as well as several maps and reference sheets.

The book was the first in a series of publications designed to re-launch the Greyhawk campaign setting, followed by other sourcebooks and adventure modules set in Greyhawk such as Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil and Return to the Tomb of Horrors.
Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins won the 1998 Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Supplement.[7]

The Living Greyhawk Gazeteer (LGG) is sourcebook for the World of Greyhawk campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game and expands upon material covered by previous products, such as Gary Gygax's World of Greyhawk Fantasy Game Setting and Carl Sargent's From the Ashes (TSR, 1993). Despite the title, the Living Greyhawk Gazeteer is not exclusive the the Living Greyhawk Campaign. Other publications linked to the Living Greyhawk Gazetter has treated it as superior to the D&D Gazeteer and used it in the D&D Gazeteer's place[8][9].
Of the two Third Edition Gazeteers (The Living Greyhawk Gazeteer and the D&D Gazeteer) published for the 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons game, the Living Greyhawk Gazeteer was better recieved by players.[10] Most reviews were generally positive[11][12][13][14] with common misgivings are lack of full color layout and a paper-back cover.
