Deletion and recreation of Webkinz

Someone deleted the webkinz page!!! (No they Didn't i went on this morning)No they're just fixing it people!

I need help to fix it, so the anyone with info, add it.--Technofreak90 17:05, 29 October 2006 (UTC)i am SO hot

I thought pages could not be deleted except by an admin? If the page was taken down was there a reason for it? MrDenton 17:41, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the page was deleted on 23 October 2006 by Mike 7, who is indeed an admin. I did not have the page "watched" at the time, so I missed any AfD discussion, and thus don't know all of the reasons for deletion, but I had very serious concerns about the page myself. It was not written in NPOV style at all (which could have been fixed), and more seriously seemed to be a long How To on Webkinz. Hopefully, starting over from scratch, a better article can be written. I hope to make contributions here, too, starting some time next week. Pawl 18:06, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Good to know, I agree that there was too much stuff on the page. I would rather have a quick overview and then a section of things you can't find simply by going to webpage. For example I would love to start a database of secret recipes because my daughter loves that part of the game. But I never added that to the old page because there was so much stuff there already yet I didn't feel that it justified it's own page. MrDenton 17:36, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

You can also play daily activities such as the wishing well and wheel of wow to earn more money. It's been so hard to find Webkinz the past few months in stores, but they are finally returning amungst the shelves. I have the answer: The company has moved their building from Ontario to somewhere in the United States. Now the question is: when will we start seeing the webkinz we've all been looking for, like the Koala and the Clydesdale Horse. Well, the Koala has such a high demand, and the Clydesdale Horse was put on delay, and should be returning to stores in early June.

The Chocolate Lab will not be available until the end of the year and has not been announced, so it probably should not be listed yet. If you do list it, then you need to list all the other upcoming, but not officially announced Webkinz. They are: German Shepherd, Brown Arabian Horse, Turtle, Pinto Horse, Charcoal Cat, Collie Dog, Penguin and Seal. Also, you need to add Webkinz Insider to the fan website page. This is actually the number one website in the world for fans and information on Webkinz. They receive info, like the list of new Webkinz above directly from Webkinz. The page would be seriously lacking without it. Spelling needs to be corrected next to the love frog. Should just read as Valentine's Day. Esauer 23:46, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Extreme frustration!

The way that this article is written it sounds like a really bad parenting magazine. I hate to put it this way but the writting of the second article is so bad that it is probably to the point where we will have to sack the article and start over. The writing isn't at all gramatically correct, and the spelling is about 1st grade standards. Also the vandalism is really bad. Might I suggest (i'm pretty sure this is not the correct wording) lock the article to people who haven't been members for a certain amount of time? There is no gentle way to put it. THIS ARTICLE SUCKS. Sorry about the wording but I am speaking my mind. This article needs a major overhaul. I would like to get some input from others to see if there are other ideas. Thanks. Binglebongle2000 22:35, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

I've reverted it back to a version from the middle of November, which wasn't quite as bad. It still needs work. --Versageek 22:45, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Bold textWELL, FIRST OF ALL, SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE TYPING OUT A FULL WORD. ESPECIALLY A LONG ONE. SO WE PUT A SHORTER VERSION OF IT. IT ISNT THAT BIG OF A DEAL. YOU DONT HAVE TO MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF WRITING! OOH I SPELLED A WORD WRONG THEY'RE GOING TO ARREST ME!!!

Uhh.. sorry

Ummm... I deleted the mention "Webkinz are great toys" as that is unencyclopedic but something happened to the page. Could someone fix it? The mistake was unintentional and I would fix it if I knew how. SORRY!!! 76.25.49.63 23:42, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Marketing hype?

This page sounds it was written by the company, and many of the features sound like they are being "hyped" (in a marketing sense), eg. "There are lots of fun ways to make Kinzcash on Webkinz World" or "This protects children from potentially inappropriate material, and prevents them from entering any identifying information." On the later point -- while I appreciate the effort to minimise risk, I think "prevent" is too strong a word here. I don't know what the word set is to choose from, but I presume someone can identify themselves in terms of analogies or descriptions based on visual features ("green house", etc.)

Actually the word set is more sentence fragmets that you can mesh together to make words. Ex. "Do you want to go - to the W shop?" the hyphen is where one ends and the other begins. What about the Floating Magic W? 68.76.120.240 13:53, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Kinz I think the article needs to be toned down a bit to be more NPOV. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.194.13.105 (talkcontribs)

It's worse than that. The whole article is a collection of cruft. It has been put together by a series of editors that do not appear to understand what wikipedia is intended to be and what it is not. I expect that the article will soon be "discovered" by someone interested in maintaining wikepedia standards and then deleted as it was a month and a half ago, and the cycle will start all over again. If I can find the time, I hope to do a cut at an encyclopedic entry for Webkinz, and let people see it before I attempt to replace what has grown on this article. -- Pawl 17:45, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

The Toy Trends section needs a source, as it's written it sounds like either a shop owner or an ebay seller trying to drive up their prices. At the least it's just personal experience, I have not had any trouble finding the Webkinz that my kids want, and so far only 2 have been retired and could be considered rare. MrDenton 15:57, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm removing the Toy Trends section as it's still unsourced and not up to Wikipedia standards. I would replace it but I can't find anything on the "webkinz trend" other than a few blog entries. MrDenton 23:41, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree that as it stands this entry reads like an ad for the toys.

me too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.196.87.62 (talk) 22:01, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Cleaned up

I've removed most of this article, as the content was an unencyclopedic disaster. I've left the cleanup tag on it, since it's been listed at WP:CU (by me, actually), but I've slapped the notability tag on it since there really isn't much of an assertion here. This article needs sources, not cruft. --Kinu t/c (ér') 20:40, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Still needs help editing

We need to know more about Webkinz. This page lacks informaton that we need to know. We need to know if this is a safe site. We need to know a bit more about what the site has and finaly we need to know what Lil'Kinz are. Po56 00:16, 20 February 2007 (UTC) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Po56 (talkcontribs) 18:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC).

There are no Killers on Webkinz. 68.76.120.240 13:46, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Kinz

Lil Kinz are exactly the same as a Webkinz but 2 inches smaller. There are no "killers" on webkinz. This was a rumor and on webkinz.com you can find a public announcement that states that this was just a rumor and untrue. Julie 19:12, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Added some safety information as requested. Webkinz is safe as there is no way to exchange personal information. MrDenton 13:47, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
What I'm thinking is that this article really only needs three sections. One on the company Ganz, one on the actual Webkinz products and another on the online gameplay. None of these really need to be all that long. Thoughts? MrDenton 00:45, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

I just noticed that somebody put in the article that the cat theme was retired, but that hasn't been anounced or put into action, and as far as i am aware, they only did a poll to see which theme people wanted retired where the cat theme was included. (Ebo666 Villa 06:09, 18 June 2007 (UTC))

ATTENTION!!!!

Please do not put negative feelings on here about Webkinz if you don't even have an account! I personaly have an account with about 13 webkinz on it so I would know if anything bad was going on.

List

This article needs a list of Webkinz, Lil'Kinz, and retired webkinz. And W Plus products. 68.76.120.240 13:55, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Kinz

There is a list of Webkinz right on their homepage, I don't see the need to have a copy here. Plus, who's going to keep it updated? MrDenton 16:40, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

It would be useful to have it all on one site and we could work together on the updatingAEO77 22:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry. I'm afraid there are too many webkinz for me to list. But did you know there are now webkinz clothes and webkinz figurines? And if you live near Fort worth and Arlington Texas, I could tell you some places to get webkinz. gene allens on randol mill, hallmark at lincoln square, hallmark in Pantego, Wishes and dreams in pantego, Limited too, justice, Cracker Barrel, JC Penny, and the Import store in downtown fort worth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.203.215.63 (talk) 03:19, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Microchip?

I've heard there's a microchip- is that true?

A spacial anomaly brought me here.

There are such things as microchips. They don't have anything to do with Webkinz. Not sure exactly what you are asking. MrDenton 00:51, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

A lot of folks seem to be curious as to what people who have purchased and used Webkinz think. Would a link to a consumer review site that features consumer published reviews/opinions be helpful? http://www.epinions.com/Webkinz/display_~reviews --Copesullivan 17:24, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I will add, that I think that the article most likely needs more current facts as to what the website contains, as well as a more accurate description of the stuffed animals themselves. Yes, personal opinions on the item are very helpful, but should be limited to an additional note, or.... as I suggested before, external links. The article itself should contain mostly factual, and more up-to-date material.--Copesullivan 00:38, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Marketing practices, retailers' concerns, lawsuit

I don't think you can call this article neutral without some information on the business strategy surrounding the line. The sales representatives are delivering notices of policy changes that could easily be called extortionate, and I know one store owner is suing Ganz for holding a USD$100,000+ order that was prepaid with the promise of expedited shipping. Does anyone have sourced information? Dextrose 03:17, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Tagged with {{POV}} as per this post. I don't think people realise just what it is Ganz is doing to their market and to the toy market in general. This article is not by any means neutral if it doesn't cover the negative affects of the Webkinz marketing and sales campaign. Dextrose 02:00, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
There is no POV problem. There is no point of view being espoused here. The article merely describes the product - it doesn't promote it, or say their marketing practices are fair or unfair. As per WP:NPOV: "The neutral point of view is a means of dealing with conflicting verifiable perspectives on a topic as evidenced by reliable sources. The policy requires that where multiple or conflicting perspectives exist within a topic each should be presented fairly. What you're talking about is a single point of view, not multiple points of view. So if the article mentioned the "negative effects" and the negative effects only, then it would be POV. Second, the business practice allegations aren't verified by reliable sources. Third, it's not like the article avoids the negative aspect altogether - the "Parental concerns" section mentions cited instances where concerns have been raised about the product. I haven't seen any reliable sources that mention the business practices you're talking about. I'm removing the tag.--Jtalledo (talk) 04:34, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Expand Article

We need to make this article as big as the Club Penguin article. It is very short. Superjustinbros. 23:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Trading Cards

I have heard rumors that they are going to get rid of the trading cards. Is there any truth in that? If so, could somebody find a link? (Ebo666 Villa 06:00, 18 June 2007 (UTC))

    • This is not an article to tell about Webkinz prouducts, but to awnser your queston, I think they are making another series. Superjustinbros. 23:13, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Uncited additions

Please do not add uncited additions. Any additions to Wikipedia must be cited. See WP:CITE and WP:V for more information. --Jtalledo (talk) 02:15, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Clean up

I cleaned up the page again. It was becoming way too bloated with a lot of unencylopedic content like a long list of newly introduced features and unnecessary details about the trading card game. This kind of content does not belong in an encylopedia - it's more in the domain of any number of Webkinz fan sites that are easily found in a Google search. --Jtalledo (talk) 02:40, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Ahhhhhh!!!! YES!! We REALLY need to clean up this article! I mean, the claim, "Webkinz are great toys" is COMPLETLY UNENCYCLOPEDIC AND SOMEWHAT BIASED it should be deleted immediantly. 76.25.49.63 23:35, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm thinking there should be some sort of chart with all the webkinz pets, their special items and foods. It would just be more informative. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.252.86.16 (talk) 18:52, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

About the Cards

You should make a thing about Trading Cards instead of just saying "there are also cool Trading Cards".Absorrthekinz99 23:54, 1 July 2007 (UTC) Also why didn't Wikipedia make one article about all of the W Plus products? 68.76.120.240 13:51, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Kinz

There is a page about the cards at Webkinz Trading Cards. Epass (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 23:05, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Gameplay section vandalism

Is there a reason that the Gameplay section keeps getting deleted w/out explanation? I'd call vandalism on it, but it's a pretty narrow scope on something rather pointless, so I don't know what to make of it. Dextrose 00:57, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Used as a source

Looks like this article uses one of the sales lines in the lead - "Ganz claims that more than 2 million units have been sold to retailers and 1 million users have registered on the Webkinz site..." They might have retrieved the info elsewhere though. --Jtalledo (talk) 11:10, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Blanking

Quit blanking the page. I gave no warnings or anything this time, but blanking pages or replacing them with content like this is not tolerated. Keep it up and you may be blocked. — SheeEttin {T/C}

WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A FAN SITE. IT IS NOT A CHEAT SITE. WIKIPEDIA IS A WEBSITE WHERE YOU CAN FIND GENERAL INFORMATION ON DIFFERENT THINGS. THAT MEANS THAT THERE SHOULD NOT PUT UP A LIST OF RECIPIES OR OF UP AND COMING WEBKINZ. IT WAS SAID THAT "IT WOULD BE VERY USEFUL TO WEBKINZ VISITORS." THIS IS NOT WHERE THINGS LIKE WEBKINZ RECIPIES, FUTURE WEBKINZ, PERSONAL OPINIONS AND ALL OTHER RELATED MATERIAL NEEDS TO BE. What a mess

This article is a mess. I'll get to cleaning it up or maybe rewriting it eventually, but I have to say, PLEASE READ THE WIKIPEDIA GUIDELINES before editing articles! There was an entire section about a fan site--such things are quite explicitly not allowed, nor are links to such sites allowed in the "external links" section. The Pet of the Month

When the Webkinz page returns to Wikipedia, I think the list of webkinz pets and list of games should return along with a list of current, past, and future pets of the month. I cannot seem to find any main stream media articles to cite about the server troubles with Webkinz, but it is not theoretical. Vandalism again

The semi-protection for this page just expired, and almost immediately the vandalism popped up. Now, an admin won't protect the page until there's a record of constant, consistent vandalism so if the page needs to be protected again we'll have to wait at least a couple days. If it does keep up though I'm going to ask for it to be protected again. -- Atamachat 03:22, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
