WEAN-FM (99.7 FM, "News Talk 630 WPRO and 99.7 FM") is a radio station located in Providence, Rhode Island. The station is owned by Citadel Broadcasting Corporation, and airs a news-talk format. WEAN-FM serves as a simulcast of WPRO/630.
Prior to March 11, 2008, WEAN broadcast as WSKO-FM ("The Score"), which broadcast a sports format that simulcast most programming from WSKO/790 (now WPRV).
[edit] Programming
As a simulcast of WPRO, programming on the station includes programs hosted by John DePetro, Buddy Cianci, Dan Yorke, Matt Allen, Michael Savage (Savage Nation), Jerry Doyle, and George Noory (Coast to Coast AM), as well as Paul Harvey.
As WSKO-FM, notable programming included "Opie and Anthony" on mornings, Andy Gresh & Scott Zolak on mid-days, Jim Rome on afternoons, and Sportsbeat with Scott Cordischi & Bryan Morry on evenings. The station's program director was Ron St. Pierre. Other notable on-air contributors and producers included John "J.C." Crowe, Jim Louth III, Tony Cornetta, John "Sun Chips" Ahern, John "Buddy Love" Andrade, and Brett "Rooch" Ferruccio. WSKO-FM was also the Providence affiliate of ESPN Radio and the WBCN Patriots Rock Radio Network. These programs were canceled on March 10, 2008, when it was announced that WSKO-FM would drop the sports format in favor of the WPRO simulcast on March 11, 2008, an announcement that came after the station's ratings declined as a result of competition from WEEI-FM.[1]
