Reorganisation

This doesn't come across as a very good article for such a large and important subject. It is basically a bunch of links with a short intro. The one content section (prediction) is actually redundant given the link to Weather forecasting further down the page. The forecasting entry itself is possibly redundant, given the quality of the Meteorology entry. There are also far too many commercial links.

I think this whole area could be reorganised, there are far too many overlapping articles covering the weather. nick

Overhaul

OK, I have carried out my threat above to overhaul this page. It had basically become a links page for weather companies. The only bit worth keeping was the opening paragraph. The list of weather patterns has gone to meteorology, as has the list of weather agencies. The list of forecasting companies has gone to weather forecasting. The other content sections are all duplicated on other linked to pages, so they've gone. Please discuss here first if you feel like reverting. nick 07:20, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

oh, and thanks for removing the "stupid" attention tag, nick

let's create a weather series!

I'd like to make a suggestion - couldn't the whole stuff about the weather put into a series like the ones that already exist about some political things and others? The whole articles referring to weather matters seem to be a little unorganized. If it is possible to tie articles like politics of the US or politics of the UK together it should also be possible to do that for weather related articles. It would make things much easier for the user to check out weather related topics. One thing that I have so far failed to find in the wikipedia is weather records around the world. That is in need to be added if it doesn't exist already.

If there'll be a decision to reorganize the weather related topics according to my suggestion I would be happy to help! --Krawunsel 23:30, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

My first suggestion is, put all things regarding tropical cyclones in one article. They're all the same but they simply have different names around the world. It isn't necessary to have various articles on tropical cyclones named "Hurricane", "Typhoon" or whatever else. They're all the same except they occur in different ocans. They should all be in one article that should contain information about the regions in the oceans where tropical cyclones get started and which coasts are likely to be hit by them and how they get started.

In additon I suggest a section for local weather phenomena and another for special weather occuranncies and catastrophes. --Krawunsel 23:41, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this topic. There are two main articles for this subject Weather and Meteorology. The difference is subtle, but technically, meteorology is a subset of weather, that's why I rewrote this article and put all the stuff about planetary and space weather in; before it was a just a very poor, link strewn version of meteorology (which is very good). The logical thing to do to me, seems to be to leave "Weather" as a basic overview of of weather and put any detailed topics under meteorology (there are also two overlapping categories, Weather and Meteorology). BTW those two articles do both redirect to Tropical cyclone.
I agree though, weather/meteorology as a topic is very poorly organised. There are some excellent articles, ie Earth's atmosphere, Temperature, Lightning and some awful ones, eg High (atmospheric), Global_climate. nick 08:04, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

Weather Channel

Do we really need a weather channel link on this page? They have enough coverage as it is; their article reads like they commissioned it...
