"We Belong" is a song from Pat Benatar's album Tropico. Although it matched "Love is a Battlefield"'s success on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #5, it made the #3 spot on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The song also made the top 40 of Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart in 1985. The song was written by songwriting team Lowen & Navarro (the latter, Dan Navarro, is a cousin of Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction fame). The single featured acoustic guitar, drums, electric guitar, and a choir of children. The song earned Benatar a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

[edit] Cover versions

  • A eurodance cover of the song was released by Double Dare.
  • The song was covered by American artist Lynn Carey Saylor for her released album You Like It Clean released in January 2007. It features "We Belong" songwriters Lowen & Navarro on backup vocals, as well as Queen guitarist Brian May. Eric Lowen, who is seen in the video singing throughout with Saylor, suffers from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). The singer wished to honor him by recording a cover of this song. The song is available for download at http://lynnsmusic.com.
  • A cover version by Arabella Harrison is currently used in a television ad campaign for Sheraton Hotels and Resorts. According to Harrison's MySpace page, there is no full-length cover of the song as she was only commissioned to record a 45-second version.
