We've Won It Five Times

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"We've Won It Five Times" is a football chant/song sung by supporters of Liverpool Football Club (to the tune of Sloop John B by The Beach Boys). The song rose to prominence after the club's victory in the 2005 Champions League; the fifth time they have won the European Cup, which allows them to keep the trophy.

"We won it in Wembley
"We won it in Gay Paris
"In '77 and '84 it was Rome
"We've won it four times, we've won it four times
"In Istanbul we'll win it five times
"We won it five times, we won it five times
"In Istanbul we won it five times"

[edit] Original lyrics

The tune is not new to the Anfield faithful. A 1998 issue of Liverpool fanzine Through The Wind And Rain records similar lyrics:

"We won it at Wemb er lee
"we won it in Gay Paree
"In 77 and 84 it was Rome
"We've won it 4 times, we've won it 4 times
"Galatasaray beat you, but we won it 4 times
"The king was Bill Shankly, who handed it onto Paisley
"He won it 3 and Joe Fagan won it as well
"We've won it 4 times, we've won it 4 times
"Barcelona beat you, but we won it 4 times
"When Emlyn lifted it high, it lit up the Roman sky
"Thommo in Paris and Souness in Rome did it too
"We've won it 4 times, we've won it 4 times
"Borussia beat you, but we won it 4 times
"At Wembley we won it at home, we took 26,000 to Rome
"And 20,000 in Paris when we won it again
"We've won it 4 times, we've won it 4 times
"Monaco beat you, but we won it 4 times"
