WDR Fernsehen is a regional television channel aimed at North Rhine-Westphalia, broadcast by Westdeutscher Rundfunk. It is one of the seven regional "third programmes" that are offered within the federal ARD network.
It started broadcasting on December 17, 1965 as Westdeutsches Fernsehen (WDF), changing its name to West 3 in 1988, before settling for WDR Fernsehen in 1994.
Inititally, the channel was only available in North Rhine-Westphalia, but with the launch of cable and satellite television it has become available nationwide.
The chanels broadcasts eleven local half-hour news programmes at 7.30 p.m. every day. They are branded "Lokalzeit" and also have a short update at 6 on weekdays. Since February 2007, these editions of Lokalzeit are broadcast:
