WDKY-TV, channel 56, is the Fox-affiliated television station for Lexington, Kentucky, licensed to Danville. Its transmitter is located southeast of the city. Owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, the station has studios on Euclid Avenue in downtown Lexington. The station began broadcasting on February 10, 1986 as an independent station. Seven months later WDKY, became a charter Fox affiliate. In 1995, CBS affiliate WKYT began producing a nightly 10 o'clock newscast.
Sinclair acquired WDKY from Max Media in 2001. On March 12, 2007, WDKY began airing an hour of news weekday mornings at 7 A.M. This newscast is produced by WKYT as well. Weeknights at 10:45, there is a 15-minute sports replay show called the WDKY Blue Sports Extra. All news programs originate from WKYT's studios on Winchester Road. WDKY has been broadcasting the newscasts in high definition since April 11, 2008. That making WDKY the third Lexington station producing news in high definition. This is the first Sinclair station to be producing local news in high definition.
