WDHN is an ABC-affiliated television station in Dothan, Alabama, broadcasting on channel 18. The station's transmitter is located behind its studios on Route 52 in Webb, Alabama, approximately 6 miles (10 km) east of Dothan. The signal has little reach outside the greater Dothan area.

[edit] History

WDHN signed on on August 7, 1970, under ownership of a group of investors headed by Betts Slingluff, Jr. In 1979, Slingluff's group sold WDHN to Hi Ho Television, which also owned WVGA in Valdosta, Georgia. In 1986, Hi Ho sold WDHN and WVGA to Morris Multimedia. In 2003, Nexstar Broadcasting purchased WDHN along with KARK-TV in Little Rock, Arkansas from Morris.

The station has always been an ABC affiliate.

[edit] Programming

WDHN has historically lagged behind CBS affiliate WTVY in the ratings for local and other programming. This is partly due to its weak signal. It still broadcasts from its original tower, a tiny (by modern television standards) 500-foot (152-meter) structure behind its studio. It only broadcasts at 1.07 million watts, one of the weakest signals in the country for a full-powerered network affiliate.
