WCUR, also known as West Chester University Radio, is a college radio station broadcasting in the US State of Philadelphia area via a transmitter that covers a fairly wide radius around West Chester, PA. WCUR offers a wide variety of music, news, sports, and specialty programming. This is because WCUR is considered a free format station, and does not require that DJ's play within certain parameters.
Operating under two hour slots, the Disc Jockey's for WCUR blend the culture around them. Shows include themes of world music, country, 90s, heavy metal, rock, pop, and indie.
With a recent change in General Manager and Program Director (Due to graduation and resignation) the station has taken a turn to reflect a movement turned back towards the music and what it's all about.
The station annually holds a Battle of the Bands, near the end of the Spring Semester at West Chester University. Past winners include the heavy rock band, THRASHER (which stems from the Ozzy/Black Sabbath genre), and Back of the Bus, a hip-hop/gospel fusion band.
