WCQS FM 88.1 is a listener supported public radio station based in Asheville, North Carolina. Licensed to Asheville, North Carolina, USA along with a number of broadcast translators in surrounding communities, the station serves Western North Carolina.
The station has several broadcast translators assigned to it:
- W209AD, 89.7 in Clyde, since 1987
- W209AE, 89.7 in Cullowhee, since 1986
- W237AR, 95.3 in Hazelwood (also Cherokee), since 1992
- (original permit as W214AI 90.7 in 1990; Hazelwood is now part of Waynesville)
- W298AY, 107.5 in Black Mountain, under construction
- W234AS, 94.7 in Bryson City, under construction
- W250AN, 97.9 in Tryon, under construction
One fully-licensed WNCPR station also simulcasts as a rebroadcaster: WFQS FM, 91.3 in Franklin, since 1989.
WYQS FM, 90.5 in Mars Hill was assigned from Mars Hill College in 2004, and will be used as a separate station. This station's transmitter will be relocated to Big Knob after the Madison County, North Carolina Board of Commissioners voted to allow space to be leased on the tower there.[1]
There are also applications for translators in Hendersonville, Balsam, and Asheville, though it is not yet confirmed to which stations these (or the three currently permitted for construction) would belong.
WCQS can also be heard via cable FM on 104.5 in Asheville and 90.7 in Brevard.
