WBGR-LP is a low-powered television station located in Bangor, Maine. The station is affiliated with the America One and ION Television networks, and broadcasts on channel 33. It is a Class A operation, despite being legally identified with the -LP suffix in its call letters.
[edit] History
WBGR first went on the air on August 28, 1995 as Bangor's WB affiliate. That relationship ended in 1998 when the WB created a cable-only channel for its smaller markets.
[edit] Programming
WBGR began airing America One Network programming in early 2005 and has carried ION Television programming since its launch (as "Pax") in 1998. WBGR also airs late afternoon CBS college football games that WABI chooses not to run (as they may interfere with WABI's 6pm newscast). The station frequently preempts early evening ION network programming in order to air religious shows. WBGR has also aired local religious programming and high school sports at various times during its history, however the local programming has been disappearing from the schedule in recent years and local sports are no longer carried. The station also carries Shepherd's Chapel overnights.
