WBFO presents a mix of news and music programs weekdays. Its local news department was recognized by the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association in 2006 as the top news radio station in all of New York. WBFO is all news during the morning and afternoon drive time periods and features jazz middays and evenings.

Weekends air a mix of syndicated talk programs (such as Car Talk, Only A Game and Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!) and music programs (Thistle and Shamrock, Bebop and Beyond, and Piano Jazz).

WBFO also runs an HD2 channel called "Xponential," with an adult album alternative format.
