Waziristan Campaign

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Waziristan Campaign was a series of operations conducted in Waziristan by British forces between 1919–1920. The prelude to the campaign was an incursion by the Mahsud Tribe in the summer of 1917 whilst British Forces fought in the First World War. The British Forces eventually restored calm whilst the Waziris took advantage of unrest in Afghanistan to launch more raids against British garrisons. This formed the basis of the is campaign. The fighting lasted for 12 months with aircraft being used to suppress tribesmen in some raids.
