Wazirabad

Wazirabad (Urdu: وزیر آباد) is an industrial city located in Gujranwala District, Punjab, Pakistan. Wazirabad is situated on the banks of the Chenab River nearly 100 kilometres north of Lahore on the Grand Trunk Road. It is 45 kilometres from Sialkot, 30 kilometres from the district capital - Gujranwala and about 12 kilometres from Gujrat.

Wazirabad, literally the city of the Wazir, was founded by Sheikh Ilm-ud-din Ansari, court physician to Shah Jehan and later Governor of Lahore. The name is derived from his title of Wazir Khan.

Wazirabad is internationally famous for its fine quality cutlery products such as hunting knives, pocket knives, daggers, swords, axes, laguiole knives, military knives, utensils, table cutlery, household and light industry products. Internationally renowned cutlery manufacturing company PRIME STEEL INDUSTRIES and New Friends Cutlary are also based in Wazirabad. Its fine cutlary and kitchen accessories are famous in and out side of Pakistan.

Wazirabad also produces export quality rice. The villages of Wazirabad Tehsil, such as Kot Qazi,Ghakka Mitter, Kheway Wali, Dhaunkal, Kaylaskay Cheema,Kot Jaffer, Rasool Nagar, Ali Pur Chatta, Manchar Chatta, Mandiala Chatta, and Saloke Chatta, are famous for this crop. These villages are also major producers of Sugarcane.

Wazirabad is also famous for its leather products like leather garments, gloves, wallets, bags etc. The local industry is also engaged in the production of surgical instruments, beauty care products and sports goods.

There are various tribes in Wazirabad - this include Gujjars ( Qazi's )Jarral, Bajwas, Mughals, Bhatti, Syeds, Pathans, Kashmiri Butt, Rajputs (Bhatti, Rana, Janjuas, Awans etc.), Araien, and Jats such as, Hanjras, Cheemas, Chathas, Waraichs, Kalairs, Gondals, and Waseers, Kalyar(Blauch). They have had a significant role in provincial and national legislatures.

Wazirabad is rich for its high quality wheat, rice, and sugar cane crops. Its soil is enriched by the waters of Chenab river. Two major Headworks Of Chenab River, i.e., Khanke Headworks, Quadirabd Headworks, are situated in Wazirabad tehsil for Pakistan. It has an a significant part in the rice export, as well.


the political environment in city also has changed in the election of 18 February and iftikhar ahmad cheema has beaten hamid nasir chattha.
